TWINS!!!! I'm A DAD!!!!
Edited on Sat Jan-14-06 11:07 PM by fearnobush
Boyz - Both over 6 pounds. Who knows, they could be Presidents on day. Democrats of course.

Thank You every one, Thank You DU for the love and for the Truth I have long sough after since the 2000 selection. You all have been a great inspiration for me. I can't wait to share it with these two bundles of joy for there entire lifetimes.

I have to go back to my wife now at the hospital. It's snowing really hard right now in NJ but thankfully I live only a mile from the hospital. Thank You all.

109. Identical or fraternal? Post a photo when you can... and good luck!
Mine were born 14 months apart, almost like twins.
I was VERY busy... ex-husband departed for the home of another lady (!) when they were 21 months and 7 months old.

Linda -- October 9, 1968
David -- December 10, 1969

(TOP) In their teens, notice the BABY BROTHER is now taller than his OLDER SISTER.

The earlier picture was in the 1970s, maybe when they were five and six.

Have fun, and good luck!

In peace,

Radio_Lady

65. Thanks, Thank You everyone.
I'm so greatful for DU, it has taught me how people really do care in this Country. With all of our fascist media - GOP controlled - no truth and hate toward those who fight for it all over the TV and radio - I have a home I can come to each day and see and share what my so called democracy once had and has now lost. The people of DU have taught me that love is the great key of live and all I want to do now is share it and give it these new lives born in to this world today.

144. Drinking my first cup of coffee
and this is the first thing I read this morning. Gonna be a good day after this nice start.

Life is what we make of it and there really are a lot of very good people out there. Funny thing, just two days ago my oldest son (almost 22) shot a piece of wisdom back at me that I had shared with him long ago. He changed it up a bit and it added to the things I thought were important. You will be amazed at the extra wisdom you will gain from those two little boys.

Please give them a little kiss on the tops of their sweet little heads. Thank you for a great start to my day.

PICTURES!

30. Congrats! And some words of wisdom:
1.) Love, love, love, love, love them. Tell them you love them every day, several times a day.

2.) Set boundaries and punishments when those boundaries are broken. They will test you - and they should - but they want you to guide them (even if they act like they don't).

3.) See No. 1

4.) Hugs are free. Tennis shoes aren't.

5.) See No. 1

6.) That Luv's commercial? You know the one: where the parent says "I used to do X,Y,Z and then I got real." Ummm... that's the truth.

7.) See No. 1

8.) Learn to isolate noise - even within your own head.

9.) See No. 1

10) SEE NO. 1!!!

:hi:

Congrats again!

133. great advice! here's my 2 cents
I think #1 will make up for just about any mistake that might arise as a result of #6. (I haven't seen that commercial but if I understand the gist, I am ALL about #6. You might as well start forgiving yourself right now for the goofs you'll make, because you'll make them. Being human and all. But #1 will take care of #6 like Oxyclean.)

Until I became a parent I thought #4 was nice, but more as a bonus feature--I didn't realize physical affection would be so important, to children and to me. Then I had kids and I could not keep my mitts off them. I would love to be able to swallow them whole, like a python (only without the digestive juices), if I could. Having always had a pair of arms available for the asking, they are still compulsive snugglers, well past babyhood, which is an unspeakably huge joy. And I think hugs and kisses get all of us over the times I've fallen down on #6.

You are so lucky... you get to experience the sublimity of having a baby (or two) snoozing on your chest--something we older parents won't get to experience again till we get to heaven or till we have grandchildren. There really is nothing better on earth or anywhere else than having an innocent, trusting baby sleeping in your arms. (Now I'm getting all misty....)

Congratulations!

And on a totally realistic note: There probably will be long, dark nights of the soul when one or both babies are crying and you don't know what the hell is wrong and you're completely exhausted beyond any exhaustion you've experienced before and they're just being gigantic pains in the butt. IT WILL NOT HURT THEM if you walk away for 10 or 15 minutes to just breathe and care for your own sanity. It really, really won't. I think even the Dalai Lama would get frustrated with a baby who's been screaming for hours and isn't hungry and doesn't have a dirty diaper but is just being ornery at 3 AM. If it's colic or existential angst there's not all that much you can do; if you hold them without imposing on yourself the pressure of trying to make them all better, that's great, but don't feel bad about just walking away for a little while when you have had more than enough.

P.S. These nights probably won't happen all that often--I only had one, actually. But it was BAD and on that occasion I was very grateful to have read the advice to just walk away for a while.

I'm a grammie mammie of 2 yr old twin girls! I started working on them being Democrats- immediately after birth! ;>)

You will have so much fun with them and it will only get better.

Keep a log of what they do and what they say---they will start out the same, but when they diverge into their own personalities--that's when the fun really begins!

I hope you have some grammies to help.

115. Congratulations to the second power!

I had the opportunity to observe my younger twin brothers growing up and I can tell you your life is going to be interesting! Twins are very special.

FYI, If your wife wants to breastfeed the boys, don't let the doctors talk her out of it. It can be done, although many mothers of twins both breastfeed and bottlefeed -- if Baby A is nursed while Baby B is bottlefed, at the next feeding Baby B gets breastfed and Baby A gets the bottle.

145. Congrats! Mine will be 20 yrs old next mont...
Fraternal boys...what a joy they've been. Did you have advance warning on the twins or was it a surprise? Yes, surprises do happen!

Be sure to ask the pediatrician or OB/GYN about how to contact your local Twins/Multiples support group. If you can't locate, let me know and I'll see what I can find. The Twins Club should be able to help you in a myriad number of ways - coupons for formula/diapers/etc., where to find 2-fer discounts, resource for babysitting services, etc.

My only words of advice (other than finding/contacting the twins club)are -

Listen to that inner voice - Everyone (friends, family, strangers) will offer up their suggestions, but listen to your heart, you'll know when something is working or right for your child.

Hold 'em every chance you get - housework can wait but they won't. Love 'em, love 'em, love 'em. You can never love 'em too much!

Sleep when they sleep - again, the housework will wait.

Again - congrats!

Two successive Democrat presidents in 2045-55, with their father hanging out at Democratic Underground. Sounds good to me ;-)

178. Congrats I'll be joining the club very very soon myself.
Both are boys, my wife is currently in the hospital on bed rest with them after getting fast contractions on Friday, she will hit 33 weeks on Tues. I'm home taking care of our 2 year old right now. We are hoping she can at least come home for bedrest here soon.

We are hoping she can last a couple more weeks at least. Good news is they are both good sized, right at 4lbs two weeks ago.

Again congrats!
