If Fitz does go after Cheney, what will happen?
Obviously he wouldn't have called the new grand jury if he didn't have an end-game in mind. Wonder if Cheney will try to somehow save himself and spin this to look like it did come from Bush. Will he take one for the team and just wait for a pardon if he's convicted of something? Does anyone think that this is as high as it goes?

I'm just curious if people think that Cheney will take this lying down and wait to be pardoned or will he fight for what he may perceive to be his 'good name'? Does he care at this point? I mean, he's a megamillionaire with his own 'no fly zone'...do people think he cares how history will portray him?

On a related note, are there any crimes that are not pardonable? Shouldn't treason be one of them? I don't understand how he or Rove or Libby could be pardoned for something like that.

4. From what I've seen, Fitzgerald has no party affiliation.
He was a registered independent, but changed it when he realized it was a party. I saw this mentioned in USA Today, and on Firedoglake. Google "Fitzgerald party affiliation" and there are several resources.

Has he recently changed his party status to Republican?

5. someone else has posted he'll resign, in addition to the pardon
But Cheney may have some numbers to call in that we don't know about as well. This is getting very interesting, the pres team=1 vs. the veep team=0. I mean, this could really, really screw things up with the leadership in this country, if this investigation goes higher. I mean I know their leadership is screwed up already, but I mean, BETWEEN the two camps, and Cheney is a powerful man. Not as powerful as Poppy, but probably more powerful than geedubya. It scares me just to think what could happed if these two camps start infigthing. It could be like the crips and the bloods or something, people getting killed and stuff.

And since Fitz is taking so damn long, what if Cheney is convicted after Bush leaves office? What then. Can Bush pardon him in advance of any conviction? I wouldn't ask but he can do any other damn thing he wants...

So my question wasn't geared so much toward after conviction, but what happens during that time...can Bush pardon Cheney just based on an indictment, before anything ever goes to trial. That would suck.

12. Ford pardoned Nixon (who was uncharged and unindicted) for ANY
wrong doing up to the point of leaving office. Ergo, It must be assumed that a pardon can be granted before a charge is even made...

8. Cheny will enter Bethesda Hospital and his assistant will announce
that Cheney's heart is bothering him, and for health reasons, he is retiring..

The powers that be will never inflict a trial upon an "ill man".. Cheney will slink back to Texas and become a behind the scenes "adviser" to Halliburton...

democrats in congress will lift a glass in the farewell toast and congratulate him on a job well done... (in other words..same ole same ole)

15. Has anyone suggested that
Fitz received a quiet little visit from someone who asked him if he has any loved ones? And, if he wants those loved ones to live a long prosperous life.
I truly believe the low-lifes in this administration would stoop to this level. Faced with the option of having persons near and dear disappear OR to NOT bring any more indictments.......what would you do?

19. Same as happened with KKKarl - nothing
looks like this whole investigation's been for show. Libby will get a little ime in a racketball prison, that'll be the biggest news.

20. See, this is what TO has done to us!!!!
What happened to all the praise Fitzgerald used to get on DU? I'll tell you what happened - people got all worked up about that phony Leopold story. So worked up, that when it turns out to not be true, they can't just accept that THEY have been acting like fools, oh no, it must be because Fitzgerald is a Repug and the fix is in!!!

Bullshit.

Stop blaming Fitzgerald for your own stupidity (this is aimed at all the Fitzgerald bashers who have suddenly appeared). Fitzgerald as always is an honest man - if he can't prove Rove did anything illegal, he isn't going to just charge him to make people like you happy!

And just because Rove hasn't been charged doesn't mean the fix is in. You need evidence to charge someone. You, me and Fitzgerald may all KNOW that Rove is as guilty as sin, but Fitzgerald has to PROVE it.

Now what would happen if Fitzgerald charged Rove without being able to prove anything? Do you think that maybe Bush could point at that and say "See this investigation is a partisan witch hunt"? Do you think maybe they would use it as an excuse to shut down the whole investigation?

I do.

So lets just hope that Fitzgerald focuses on what he can prove, and not set himself up to be shut down.
