Anyway, he fell into a gated off alleyway and my neighbor found him. He's back to his normal self now.

One possibility, cystitis.

More likely, once she has peed on the couch, the couch smells like a place to pee. No matter how clean you make it for human noses, it will alsways smell to her nose like a place to pee.

Now, why did she pee there in the first place?

Lots of reasons. Usually, a cat pees in an odd place because it is marking territory, under physical or emotional stress, or has something physically wrong (like cystitis).

Did anything happen prior to the first pissing episode to disrupt her routine or to put her under unusual physical or emotional stress? Or did a new person or animal come into the house? Did you start leaving her alone in the house for longer periods than she was used to? Remember, though, once she has peed there, she will probably continue to think of it as a place to pee, so she only needed a real excuse once to turn your couch into her toity of choice.

How old is your cat? If she is a senior cat, she might just be losing control. My oldest cat started peeing on the bathmat when she was 18. Not always, but about once a month. I had to stop leaving the mat on the floor at all. Then she would sometimes pee in the same place, but on the lineoleum. But she was 18, so I figured I would just clean it up as often as encessary, since she couldn't live all that much longer. (She was 19 when she died.)

If she is very young, your cat might be forming a habit to last a lifetime, so you would want to take action sooner rather than later.

I don't know your circumstance, but if not due to a medical condition (not sure what cystitus is- but had a prior cat of mine developed crystals in his urine, and this caused painful urination which in turn, caused the cat to pee on 'cool' surfaces; tile floors, bath, leather sofa... this is fatal if left untreated) maybe a stress reaction. Were there any changes in her environment around the time the behavior began? New food, new litter, new kitty (or person), any other changes (furniture or litter box location), etc.?

it is really hard to stop the behavior because cats will return to the scent of their own urine. I have that problem- i have been using a product called "Nature's Miracle" (http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441775473&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302033465) that I've found to be excellent at removing the urine odor. I've heard of another product called "Feliway" that is supposed to be relieve stress in cats- it mimics their facial pheromone- and helps them relax (http://www.catsplay.com/feliway.php3)- I haven't tried that one, though perhaps it would help.

Another product that I use is "Dr Elsey's Cat Attract Litter"- an herbal scented litter (http://home.ivillage.com/pets/cats/0,,q5pt,00.html)-- it comes with a booklet on how to treat the problem (and possible causes). It's a little expensive, but my cat likes it and pees in the box, but still occasionally pees on the sofa. UGH.

I would try this (if you are sure it is not a medical problem): try, try, try to remove as much of the pee smell as possible with Nature's Miracle, or another product. Then, use the Cat Attract litter with the Feliway and at the SAME time put a small dish of cat food on or next to the location where the cat pees (sofa)-- a cat will not pee or defecate in the same place it eats. Of course, that's not something you can do forever, but once the cat is feels less stress and starts using her box properly, you can get rid of it.

I've been trying to figure out what the hell is up with my cat-- I think that in her case, she requires a lot of attention and stimulation (play). It may be boredom. When we leave her alone for the day, she may gift us with a turd or pee on the couch. UGH. The problem I'm having is the sofa is leather, which is highly absorbent, so the products I use help but I can't completely remove the smell. UGH. So, I just try to keep her happy. But the things i've done have reduced the frequency of her fecal 'gifts'.

Anyway, I think there's hope. Tell your fiancee that after you wed, if she develops a conndition and pees on the sofa, you will never leave her! (just kidding) Let me know how it goes!

Didn't take long. This is one-month anniversary of Leopold's claim of that 'secret indictment.' And then, yesterday, that "Sealed v. Sealed" article someone sent me - well, that was funnier than you can imagine. There are only about several thousand docket entries called "Sealed v. Sealed" at the Federal Courthouse in DC. Yep, that Leopold and truthout are real pros.

And there are those loonies who will continue to maintain that Rove has been indicted, that it's a secret, that there was a lockdown at Patton Boggs (even though they haven't a clue as to what Patton Boggs is), that Jason Leopold isn't insane and incompetent, that truthout is still standing on its own dick without even realizing it, and that truth can sometimes be harder for them to deal with than they suspect.

The lawyer bashing is amazing. It's also funny, given the level of misinformation flying among these people. Their ignorance of how the legal system works - at its most basic level - as well as how our government functions - again, these are things taught in middle and high school - is shocking.

I didn't personally get into the Rove threads, I just waited to see what would come. My friend and classmate is an investigative journalist, I haven't been in contact with her for years, but she broke the Kentucky governor's money laundering scam, and at that time was told not to by fellow journalists as she would lose her access to certain government functions. She stood her ground, but had to lay low for awhile. She broke the Mena drop off (Iran Contra) weapons for drugs. Investigative journalists put their integrity and lives on the line all of the time, at least they once did. I remember the author of Fortunate Son being discredited and the media going after him like a rabid dog. We know where he got some of his info, Rove. Dan Rather, I believe, was set up. Even though the retired secretary stated she remembered typing similar documents, all of the MSM could blather is that it was a forgery discounting her accounts. Catwoman, do you get the MO now? I, like you, see some on these threads vociferously go after not only Leopold but TO and Will Pitt. To me, there are some doing it too enthusiastically, and that really disturbs me. I supported Leopold. I got accused of being like a "nazi" and "drinking the koolaid" for doing so. I sent a PM to one of the major players apologizing for DU's behavior on all of this. I wanted this to be true. I trusted that it was.

It wasn't. I think that that is indisputable at this point.

Luskin has no legal or political reason to lie about this. I have asked people to give ANY logical reason why he would lie about this. I asked in 5 SEPARATE THREADS. The ONLY explanation I got was that somehow Fitz and Luskin were colluding to help the Republicans win the 06 elections. Now, I am what some people on this site call a "conspiracy theorist". I believe at least in LIHOP, and I believe that the 2000 and 2004 elections were stolen. But that explanation makes no logical sense. It strikes me as the last ditch attempt, by good people who still want to believe Leopold, to defend the indefensible.

I hate the Republicans. They lie, cheat and steal. And that goes double for Rove. I EXPECT that from them. But when one of "my own" does the same thing, well, I hold them to a higher standard. So I, for one, got very pissed off today.

If I am wrong about this, I will make you a pledge: I will start a thread admitting my mistake and beg for forgiveness. I still hope that Rove will be indicted. But if we examine the facts, and the law, and think about this logically, I don't think that we can come to any other conclusion but that Leopold was duped or lied.

However, as to Fitz. IMHO people should remember he's an equal opportunity prosecutor. Here in IL he 1st took down ex gov 'Lying' George Ryan and his little criminal empire, and is NOW going after the Daley Administration for illegal hiring practices. And Fitz probably has his sights set on the Mayor too as just like with the Ryan case there's an unnamed 'Official A' - which was Ryan, and is likely Daley. The bottom line is that Fitz would indict and prosecute his own mother if he had enough evidence to get a conviction, with Rove he apparently did not. And with all due respect to everyone (after all I am a newbie here), I don't buy into the wild conspiracy theories₁ being tossed around. There just wasn't any 'there', 'there' - at least not enough.
