On a procedural vote, the United States Seanate has voted 48-49 on the cloture motion to continue debate on the Marriage Protection Amendment (formerly known as the Federal Marriage Amendment.)

The vote, largely along party lines, means that the effort to amdend the Constitution to restrict marriages to one man and one woman is effectively over for the 109th Congress.

Dem's should have said something lie.... "Glad to see Bush push this pandering amendment but wish he would address his failure to catch the guy who caused the 9/11 attack. Wish he would address the enormous budget deficit that has occurred under this republican president, Republican house and republican senate. Wish we would address his failure to get immigration legislation. Wish he would address why his republican administration tried to give our ports to the arabs."

John McCain, Susan Collins, Olympia Snowe, Judd Gregg, Arlen Specter, Lincoln Chafee and John Sununu voted against the cloture vote. Democratic Sens. Ben Nelson and Robert Byrd voted for it, as they did in 2004.

but, boy, is it ever important. He hasn't yet won over the fundies, despite his recent efforts. This will be a big setback for him.

We do not want to face McCain in the general. I don't care who is running, he will be tough to beat. It is extremely important for the fundies to knock him out of the primaries, the earlier the better. This should help.

16. Don't waste a lot of time celebrating, Call them on Estate Tax

The richest 17 families in America hired a lot of PR hands to get that sucker repealed. Don't let anything divert your attention from the fact that they get billions in a tax cut if the Estate Tax is repealed.

Guess who gets the tab if it is repealed? Bill goes from the very richest of the rich to every man woman and child, regardless of their budget.

Personally, I don't want to see the nation further in debt so Paris Hilton can have even more money to piss away partying.
