After thinking on it, Al Gore's global warming issue could work well in a

presidential campaign.

I, too, watched his Stephonopolous interview this morning, and what really struck me about it was not just his concern regarding the environment, but his (even) broader of idea of changing the way we live. Changing our culture- our society, really- so that it might be sustainable: environmentally, economically, and even socially. His commentary was so, so subtle....

When I first thought about what he was doing, I thought he was pushing a somewhat "radical," perhaps-too-arguable issue. However, the global warming issue segues into the alternative fuels issue, which is also spurned on by gas prices and foreign policy problems- invading the Middle East and terrorism. All of these issues are connected very closely at their roots and affect our everyday lives. As such, I'm not sure that Gore pushing global warming is nearly as politically impractical as it may seem on first glance.

Gore's...approach- I'm not sure why I hesitate to use that word- during the Stepho interview was basically as a revolutionary. He's coming to the public as an outsider, a non-politician, and he could not be too soon. Things are really starting to fall apart. He has come, in this time of mismanaged and truly stupid ideas, to offer a new, viable vision about how we can live and what our country can be.

What he doing is politically brilliant, I believe, but, more than that, of enormous importance- which, of course, only contributes to the political brilliance of it.

This man's timing is impeccable. His leadership is solid and intelligent.

And I really think he's running. What he's doing is just so good that he would be crazy if he wasn't.

1. Of course, it could. However, it is not Al Gore's issue. Al Gore is one
of the most prestigious spokeperson on this issue, but if we see it as Al Gore's issue, we are sure it is something else that will not be acted upon.

We have to demand that all politicians speak out on that issue. For me, this is a litmus test.

2. I know I'm hoping here as much as anything but I've been saying...........
.....the release of this movie now - the summer before Congressional elections - couldn't have been better timed - and I can't help but wonder if it wasn't done purposely to get and keep Al Gore's name out there from now on.

I know, I know, I could be hoping for what could be but might not be but I can't think of anyone else in the Democratic field that could take on the neocon/fundie mess and straight it out while at the same time give the neocons/fundies a taste of their own "if you don't like it tough" medicine.

3. It just makes sense that
he comes across as a concerned citizen. If he has a political agenda he'll be brushed aside. He should continue to decline running until he is forced into it by a massive public outcry. And only then should he reluctantly agree to the public demand. Funds will then come from the grassroots and he won't have to be relying on corporate donations to push himself on us like other candidates might.

6. He dosen't need funds at all.
He has already told would-be corporate donors to go ahead and donate to someone else. First; that keeps him from being obligated or open for attack; and second; he doesn't need the money. He sits on the board of --not sure without looking--ebay or google; and he has investment in Current TV and something else. Sorry; I'm fuzzy on the details; but the references are in the Al Gore 08 Group.

12. I can't imagine he'd be able to fund an entire race on his own though.
That's multimillions.

4. Yes, it works for me
I liked it just as much when Wes Clark said all of that in the 2003 primaries, and since. We need a national goals program exactly along these lines to pull the country and the planet back from the edge of destruction.

What was news to me in the interview, though, was Gore coming out against timelines for withdrawal from Iraq. That took guts, because it's not anything his following would want to hear, but he said it because he believes it. Good for Al Gore.

9. What did he say exactly?
I heard it the way I heard it, but was there something I missed?

10. I just watched it again, BGL
http://abcnews.go.com/Video/playerIndex?id=2037865

He did go around and around, as a thinker does, but in the end, he said "a deadline is probably not the right approach." Okay, he said "probably" -- but I think he certainly drew a conclusion and I would still say he is against deadlines.

8. It's a good "scare tactic"
It's one that the democratics have in the bag, and unlike terrorism it's actually a threat.
