Gore doesn't talk about it, but people should know.
The fact that Gore did not want his rescue efforts post-Katrina publicized stands in stark contrast to B*'s "photo-ops". Just as how quickly he was able to respond stands in stark contrast to B*'s lack of response.

We need to show people more of the "Real Al Gore".
http://usliberals.about.com/b/a/202095.htm

Al Gore Quietly Funded, Facilitated Mercy Mission in New Orleans
In case you missed this AP story (via CNN) from last Saturday, " Al Gore helped airlift some 270 Katrina evacuees on two private charters from New Orleans, acting at the urging of a doctor who saved the life of the former vice president's son.

http://www.detnews.com/2005/nation/0509/09/nat4-309467.htm

Gore responded immediately, telephoning Kline and agreeing to underwrite the $50,000 each for the two flights, although Larry Flax, founder of California Pizza Kitchens, later pledged to pay for one of them.

"None of the airlines involved required a contract or any written guarantee of payment before sending their planes and volunteer crews," Simon wrote of the American Airlines flights. "One official said if Gore promised to pay, that was good enough for them."

He also recruited two doctors, Spickard and Gore's cousin, retired Col. Dar LaFon, a specialist in internal medicine who once ran the military hospital in Baghdad.

Most critically, Gore worked to cut through government red tape, personally calling Gov. Phil Bredesen to get Tennessee's support and U.S. Transportation Secretary Norm Mineta to secure landing rights in New Orleans.

About 140 people, many of them sick, landed in Knoxville on Sept. 3. The second flight, with 130 evacuees, landed the next day in Chattanooga.

Al is a true hero.

One of the few pictures taken - notice Al actually broke a sweat. Again, a stark contrast to B*.

1. I remember that..I
was so proud of him at that time in history! While fuckwad went to Arizona to eat cake with that dumb mccain and then to California to play air guitar..Our real President would have been hands on down and dirty evacuating New Orleans and Mississippi!

He is a true American patriot-hero, and my President at that. We should talk about this to everyone we know.

Gore 2008, or now would be way better :)

4. I remember that.
I did not realize that the doctor who saved his son was stranded in New Orleans with patients. Sounds like the makings of another movie.

Gore is a good man and someone you'd want to have on your side in an emergency.

I voted for him after a little flirtation with Nader in 2000 (had a bad feeling about Bush)and so any reservations I had about Gore flew out the window. I would vote and work for him enthusiastically if he chooses to run in 2008.

5. I would vote for him again in a minute but
if he runs the the issue of global warming will be politicized and dismissed by the very people who need to here what he is saying. The fact that many people want him to run says more about the mistrust of Hillery than any desire on the part of Al's to run.

19. I totally support Gore for 08 and my support for him has nothing.........
....absolutely nothing to do with Hillary Clinton one way or the other. I don't necessarily dislike her but then I'm not a big fan of hers either, so I don't care what she decides to do.

First, my support for Al Gore is based solely on the fact that I think he is the ONLY PERSON who can take on the neocons/fundies and give it back as good and better than he gets it. Others can give it back too but not like Al Gore can. Second, I also think Al Gore is the ONLY PERSON who has any hope at all of restoring the working relationship this country enjoyed with the rest of the world under Clinton/Gore. Third, I think Al Gore is the ONLY person who can take on the neocons/fundies and win on his own right and not simply because people are pissed off at the neocons/fundies.

And not because of taking on anyone else. Or political considerations. Because this nation and the world needs Al Gore; we are being damaged even more than we at DU speculate, and that's a lot. Now is his time.

20. Not true at all
I want him to run because I want him to take the lead on global warming. I saw An Inconvenient Truth the other night and am more convinced than ever that he's the person we need.
Gore is my candidate of choice but I don't mistrust Hillary Clinton at all. (where did that idea come from??)
If Sen. Clinton is the Democratic nominee in '08, I will vote for her and volunteer for her campaign.

42. I was just taking Al at his word when he said that Global warming is
more important politics and that he do not see him self running. If we can convince him to run then he is the man, but if he stays out of the race let us make sure that both sides have to relate to the issue of Global warming.

Al Gore is a perfect example of the old adage "don't talk about it, be about it."

Because while BushCo. was sitting on their keeshers, talking about what they were GOING to do to help the people of NOLA, Al Gore was actually DOING it.

Kudos to him!

Yes, Virginia, Gore would win if he ran again.

37. Bush had to cut short his vacation time
"On his way to Washington, Bush had Air Force One fly low over the hurricane-ravaged area. His plane flew over New Orleans at about 2,500, and it descended even further, to about 1,700 feet, over Mississippi. Bush surveyed the damage from a couch near the left front of the plane."

23. Al's a great guy, brilliant - no friend of the worker though
I will defend him when I see rightard talking points coming from folks. But I will stop short of puting him on a pedestal. He would be miles ahead of the Bushit in every regard. But we need REAL change and not a charge to the middle. I guess I've just watched the middle move ever further to the right over the decades.

Now, moderate Republicans look like heroic liberals standing up to BushCo. Bruce Fein, Deputy Attorney General to Ronald Reagan is an example I saw recently on C-SPAN. Goldwater used to be a rightwing whacko. I blame the media owners. Gore should won and should be president to this day. But it didn't happen and we need true Democrats, not corporatist free traders.

is done anonymously. It shows you are humble, and don't want to brag about what a great person you are. If you think about it, it's really the only kind of charity that's possible, because giving money for your own benefit is selfish at its core.

I'm glad Al has realized this.

I remember the postings here at DU.

A DUer with a motorboat (fishing vessel? sorry, I'm not a boater) offered to help with search and rescue, but it was going to cost him something like $250/day to gas the thing up and run it, which money he did not have. All he asked for was gas, but he was turned down.

I've had to correct several typos in this short message, my fingers are shaking slightly with remembered anger. This has to have been one of the worst episodes in American history.

God bless Al Gore. The opposite to George W. Bush.

The deed itself and knowing you have made a difference should be reward enough. Singling out someone for special recognition in response to this devastation cheapens the act of charity and makes one question the motivation behind it-even if it is done indirectly.
