1. Which one is the scientologist?
Garafalo?

I wonder if disagreements over scientology are what lead to Garafalo leaving Majority Report.

17. Janeane Garofalo isn't a Scientologist but she's promoting a "detox"
Edited on Fri Jun-02-06 09:00 PM by Eric J in MN
program run by Scientologists.

Sam Seder says that there is no proof that people who go through the program are helped in any way.

Garofalo has had supported of the "detox" program on AAR twice, and wants to have them on a third time, and Seder says enough already.

18. The detox is Narcanon, and it's pure Scientology BS.

I think Janeane has spent too much time with the true weirdos of hollywood...

23. Here's a link with some basic info:
Edited on Fri Jun-02-06 09:07 PM by Beelzebud
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narconon

Oils, vitamins, minerals, oh and channeling your thoughts at an ashtray to make it move.

You know. Perfectly legit science. :D

Another link if you want to dig deeper:

http://www.xenu.net/archive/narconon/

Scientology is a cult, and Narcanon is simply a branch of scientology.

Frankly, I'm astounded that Janeane is dumb enough to buy this psuedo-scientific bullshit...

25. Thanks. It's too bad that Janeane Garofalo seems to be
putting the fact that some participants thinks it helped them over the question of whether it really did.

From
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narconon
====================================================
The "New Life Program" consists of two principal stages: "detoxification" and "rehabilitation." The "New Life Detoxification Program", adapted from Hubbard's Purification Rundown, involves a daily regimen of individually tailored vitamins, oil and multi-minerals with special attention to the minerals magnesium and calcium and closely supervised dosages of niacin<8>, plus exercise and lengthy sessions in a sauna.

The remainder of the Narconon course uses "training routines" or "TRs"<9> originally devised by Hubbard to teach communications skills to Scientologists. In the Narconon variant, these courses are designed to "rehabilitate" drug abusers. These training routines include TR 8, which involves the individual commanding an ashtray to "stand up" and "sit down", and thanking it for doing so, as loudly as they can.<10> Former Scientologists say that the purpose of the drill is for the individual to "beam" their "intention" into the ashtray to make it move. <11>

yesterday about Jeannine giving air time to some "charity" that had some relation with scientology -
Sam seemed to oppose it...

It seems like everytime I tune in lately she is being confrontational with Sam. I turned it off tonight. I am not susprized he walked-off.

37. I used to like her, but she bugs the sh*t out of me now.
To me she always seems to have this "holier than thou" attitude. I just cannot stand to listen to her.

Sam Seder is great. Didn't I hear Jeanine was leaving the show? When does this blessed event take place?

8. Something to ponder when thinking about scientology or other
far out thought experiments. Under hypnosis, a cold spoon, can raise a burn/blister on your arm, if you are told it is extremely hot. Something to think about.... doesn't prove anything one way or the other, but it does define the power of your mind over physical reality.

35. Oh, L. Ron following Crowley is just the appetizer...
... please consider the main course Bare-Faced Messiah or perhaps the dessert menu The Hubbard is Bare.

There's an "all-you-can-eat-clam-bar" at Operation Clambake.

I really hope that Janeane is not promoting the Co$. If she is, then that's one comedy fan less.

21. I agree with her on this one
She's an athiest but supports Christian based projects if they are worthwhile. If it's for a cause that you believe in does it really matter which religion is behind it? One can argue that any religious group is "cultish" (Says the Catholic girl that is sure to go to hell now for calling it a cult)

26. Sam Seder's point is that if a program which is supposed to
improve people's health has no scientific evidence, it should be criticized no matter who is affiliated with it.
