Dixie Chicks Sales Great-Media Not Reporting
Edited on Thu Jun-01-06 07:41 AM by erpowers
Rachel Maddow just reported on the sale of the Dixie Chicks new album. According Maddow, the new cd debuted at number one and beat music industry expections by 100, 000 sales. 525,000 copies of the groups album were sold in the first week. That is one of the biggest openings of the year. However, the Reuter's story that detailed the Dixie Chicks sale was titled "Dixie Chicks Bushwacked at Record Store". The Reuter story did mention the sales, but tried to downplay the sales by saying they paled in comparison to previous record sales. To read the story click the link below.

1. Countdown reported last night, with a snark from Keith...
...that the CD debuted at #1 on pop and country charts.

NGU.

4. Happy About Post
I am happy about your post, but even though I titled the post media not reporting it I was mainly talking about the Reuter story. I just did not know how to title the story. So I should have picked a better title.

3. FWIW, Fox News reported on it last night
I tuned in just in time to hear John Gibson's smug comments. But it is being reported.

9. My favorite line:
First-week sales on "Taking the Long Way" were better than Toby Keith's "White Trash With Money" (330,000)

Try "way fucking better," Faux.

7. Five in John Gibson's noggin would be a small price to pay for liberty
but that would be wrong.

6. I see that there are some examples posted of places where it is reported.

I think they are reluctant to report it because it messes with the myth that speaking against * and being seen as anti-bush hurts people and businesses financially.

12. When I see this stuff, I always ask myself "what IS the media afraid of"
I don't get it...I know, I know, I know, ....blah blah blah, corporate media=money=
tax breaks for rich=best friends with republican party=influencing laws to favor media=
blah blah blah....

I am so baffled sometimes I just feel like I'm living in the twilight zone.
It's so damned weird! You know, if a simple fact, that lays out the truth
about something so basic as "record sales"!!, cannot be
expressed honestly and clearly..then, oh my, it must be bad.

I have had my tv off of news for over 1.5 weeks, I just can't stomach the crap
right now. I'm desperately seeking hope, but it's going to have to be blatantly "front page"
to get my attention now.

13. How many people...
bought Dixie Chicks music because they are Dixie Chick and Country Music fans and how many bought their music to show support for their political views.

I honestly think that it was mostly people in the last category that upped their sales so much. If this is so, then the Dixie Chicks are far from a true comeback. Time will tell.

16. Not Many
I do not think there are that many people out their who would buy the album if they did not like the music. I think the majority of the sales came from fans of the group. You should look at the groups tour after they made the comment about Bush. Even though the media was claiming that the Chicks were receiving a major backlash for the comment they were still selling out some if not all their concerts. Also, I went to the Houston Rodeo this year and on the first night there was free bar-b-q dinner. The women in the serving area were playing a Dixie Chicks CD and you could clearly see the women were having the time of their lives. The women were openly dancing to the Dixie Chicks music and having a great amount of fun. This happened in Bush's supposed home state of Texas. I know Harris County which Houston is a part of is considered pretty liberal, but there were people at this Rodeo from all over the country and these women openly enjoyed Dixie Chicks music in front of everyone. I doubt anyone said anything to them. This is one more thing that makes me think the idea that the Dixie Chicks really suffered on the music side is just over blown. I think they got threats, but I do not believe that many people really stopped listening to their music.

15. We should let Good Morning America kudos not only for their
coverage of the Chicks last week, but they are using the Chicks' "I Hope" track on their promo for a special they have coming up on kids. I think they've done more than anyone else on the Chicks and we need to let them know we approve.
