Dixie Chicks new album skyrockets to #1 on Billboard charts
Looks like the longstanding boycott on the part of certain country music radio stations has proven to be a dismal flop. I'd venture that the DC's have picked up a larger fan base since putting * in his place a few years back.

1. Very true
Before the Bush flap, I probably wouldn't have bought their album. I am going to download it today from I-Tunes.

7. Just did the same thing
Went to I-Tunes and bought the album. They weren't my cup of tea so to speak before the whole Bush fracas in London, but I certainly don't mind popping down a ten spot to support a group that has overcome a dirty, slanderous attack from the right-wing.

2. You mean "conservatives" can even fuck up a boycott?
Their failures are not limited to war and the economy?

3. With Bush's approval at 30%
It's amazing how the media still wants to paint the Dixie Chicks as "radicals" :eyes:

They were simply ahead of the game....

4. I got a copy
And I hate country music. I've always kind of found listening to some of the women crossover country women not too bad, and in particular I've like a few like Twain, the Chicks, and perhaps Faith Hill, but I've never bought one. But Natalie Maines has balls as big as church bells, to quote a movie I once watched, and she deserves my support to compensate for the idiots who don't seem to believe in free speech, or the American way.

I think they are supposed to be on Larry King tonight, if I'm not mistaken.

5. That's excellent...
I can't wait to hear the spin on this! It's pretty obvious that they gained thousands of new fans thanks to their political views and that the boycotts were useless.

6. I bought it
without hearing any of the songs just to support them.

The 3rd song "Not Ready to Make Nice" rocks. It's a "F U" song if I ever heard one. Especially like this part:

I made my bed and I sleep like a baby
With no regrets and I don’t mind sayin’
It’s a sad sad story when a mother will teach her
Daughter that she ought to hate a perfect stranger
And how in the world can the words that I said
Send somebody so over the edge
That they’d write me a letter
Sayin’ that I better shut up and sing
Or my life will be over

I’m not ready to make nice
I’m not ready to back down
I’m still mad as hell and
I don’t have time to go round and round and round
It’s too late to make it right
I probably wouldn’t if I could
‘Cause I’m mad as hell
Can’t bring myself to do what it is you think I should

8. Sign of the times.
I think that people want to protest vicariously through the artists with guts enough to speak (or sing) truth to corrupt power. In fact, I believe that very soon these same people will be ready to pour into the streets and wave the bullshit flag in the face of the despicable Bu$h regime. I just hope someone is astute enough to recognize when the time for the streets has come and organizes the protesters for maximum effect.

9. It's quite possible the whole thing is
a calculated move on the part of the Chicks to take advantage of the general dislike of * in every sector of the country except the MSM. If this is the case I applaud 'em. They demonstrated that the majority of country music fans were not inbred rednecks. Yeah, I downloaded it from i-Tunes.
