5. it was thrown at him in august. april previous swift boats tried
and media didnt pick it up. they have the time to document. they didnt have time to document, or who knew it was going to grab hold, they couldnt spend money, they made a poor choice, not having a crystal ball......

my point.....

oh why kerry didnt you.... YOU do something

well. for the last two years i have given this to the republicans, not kerry. why WHY would you trash a soldier out of one side of your mouth as you talk america and american way out of the other. what does it make YOU that you didnt stand up for kerry.

i guess we see it differently, but i think mine places the blame on the guilty

12. Two reasons.
(1) Their lies and distortions would've become a 'black hole' for time and attention better devoted to the campaign itself and a positive message and agenda. Any legal process that Kerry could've initiated would have result in absolutely no resolution prior to the election and would've diverted scarce human and financial resources from the campaign itself. The biased attention paid by the media was bad enough - a full frontal attack on people who're NOT RUNNING FOR OFFICE would've doubled or tripled the media attention and the only attention paid to Junior was Rose Garden posturing.

(2) Because of the timing of the conventions, Kerry had less funding to cover a larger period of time. In order to preserve financial resources, the Kerry campaign decided to "go dark" in August. That's exactly when the Swiftboat Liars pumped up the volume, with the complicity of a corrupt corporate media. Their very objective was to create a "damned if he does and damned if he doesn't" dilemma. Because of a biased media, especially News Corporation, they were successful. There was no strategy that would comprehensively show them for what they were and are: complete liars.

As much damage as the Swiftboat Liars did, Kerry was fucked as soon as he voted as he did on the IWR. The "centrist" Dem IWR votes sank the Democratic Party in 2004 and there's no question about it. Completely contrary to the (so-called) 'moderate" claim that 'centrism' and "third way" politics would be the party's only chance, it was the key ingredient in screwing the left in 2004. From the public's perspective, the Dems presented no firm, unambiguous, and steadfast stance as an alternative to the shit from the right - largely due to the enabling of the corruption on the right by clay-footed politicians more concerned with kissing asses than taking the high moral ground.

16. He's hired a researcher
My guess is that it didn't come out then, because they hadn't been combing the records then. This is new stuff they've uncovered.

3. why is he finallly defending hismelf now??
This seems a little pathetic to refute them 2 or 3 years after-the-fact and this is coming from someone who likes Kerry.

10. part of the reason might be they sued him
for interfering with the "release" of the attack movie on him. At least that's what the article says.

15. I would have preferred him defend himself immediately after
the swift boating began. If he feels the need to pick his honor up off the floor 3 years later, so be it.

8. clearing the air even if late, from what i've heard his head has come...
together; to much thinking that Bush was merely an idiot and that they would play by some notion of civility...all that is out the window now, and many, including John Kerry, knows it sight unseen

9. I'm hoping he SUES them. I want him to defend himself. They destroyed
his reputation and his campaign. I only wish this had come out sooner.

13. At the very, very bottom of the contaminated Swiftboat Liars' barrel
is the principle that you don't bear false witness against others.

Most school children know this. The men who permitted themselves to slander a war veteran and public servant for cheap political points, in my opinion, are traitors.
