No not the Republicans. The press.
They are down in the gutter where they like to play. As I type this I am watching Bagdad ER. Are any of our Plutonian press corps watching? Of course not. They are too busy watching King Kong and telling us smutty tales.
This election should be about Katrina and the fact a major American city still looks like it belongs in the third world. This election should be about the corruption and ineptitude of an American government which makes us look like a second rate kleptocracy. This election should be about the 2464 US dead in Iraq and the roughly 17000 wounded (editted figure given at end of documentary). This election should be about the over 40 million uninsured, the 10 million unemployed, the confused elderly who can't figure out Medicare part D, and let's not forget the massive national debt.
Not if the Plutonians have their way. Instead this election will be about Saint McCain and the Clenis. After all how much fun would Bagdad ER be for our press princes? And they sure just want to have fun.
Clinton had dinner with 12 people, and gasp one of them was a woman. The NYT and David Broder knew what to do. On the first page it went. No matter that there isn't a shred of evidence that Clinton was alone with this woman. Nevermind that the Clinton's appear to spend more time together than the typical political couple. The second most important news in all the world on Tuesday was the state of Clinton's marriage and his dinner with a Canadian woman.
They are literally shameless. None of these pampered princlings will worry their pretty little heads about such things as war or natural disasters. Not when their are salacious tales to be told. Why tell us about some poor young man who dies in Iraq or some poor woman who drowned or starved in NO, or some elderly person who can't get drugs when instead they can watch King Kong and tell us about Canadian sluts (even if they have to invent them)?
There is literally no job more important than the press in a democracy. Yet our press is filled with vacuous morons whose minds are stuck in the gutter. They must be stopped. This election must be about us. I don't give a goddam about the Clenis. Even when they tell us salacious stories we like we must tell them no. It is that simple. If the press won't voluntarily grow up then we through our Democratic spokesman must make them. Dean had it right on Hardball. We must simply stiffle those conversations.
