A Word On References To Condolezza Rice.
Let me start by saying that I HATE Condi Rice. I find her a repugnant human being and an enemy of many of the principles I believe in. I hold her responsible for a lot of serious actions (and inactions) that have resulted in untold death and destruction. We should not refrain from attacking her on her policies and IMO crimes. But, I am bothered by some of the things that do get said around here when she comes up.

There are a lot of attacks on her looks. IMO, that is the least of her problems. She is no hottie in my book either. But, it remains pretty shallow in the criticism pool. More disturbing are the many posts that I read that have racial overtones. Again, IMO, we should not be referring to anyone by names that focus on race such as "Aunt Jemimah" or others.

The recent Condi captions thread that was locked got pretty ugly. I will admit that the picture was one of the most unflattering I have ever seen of the evil, lying, Sec of State from hell. But, still. BTW no offense to the OP. Certainly did not control the replies that resulted from posting it.

OK, back to your regularly scheduled browsing.

p.s. Screw you Condi. You sucked as National Security Adviser. Too bad your Soviet training went useless. Maybe you should have studied up on radical Islam. You are an even more destructive Sec. of State. I hope you end up in jail with the rest of them! We DO TOO torture. Perpetual liar.

She has a choice about that. Not like Imelda Rice can't afford better. She should buy some taste.

Her bad I say.

3. She also is a total failure and fuck-up
who was the national security adviser, tasked with supervising the status of all threats against the US? rice
Who was placed in charge of Iraq's reconstruction at the time that Bremer eradicated the Iraqi Military? rice
Who was promoted to SecState and managed to piss off everyone she met? rice
Who AGAIN was put in control of Iraq reconstruction, only to fuck it up again? rice.

EVERY THING THIS PERSON TOUCHES turns to shit. She's a USSR historian, not a diplomat, not a political scientist, and not a security scholar. She is so far out of her league that - I cannot think of a comparable comparison or appropriate insult.

4. She looks like a bobblehead
when she's speaking. That's just my opinion though. Other than that I don't care for her at all and I can't wait until she is a mere footnote in a history book.

5. Dr. Rice
What bugs me even more about her supposed wonkiness is that she was, from what I understand, an administrator at Stanford. What scholarly work of substantial note has she authored?

She drives me nuts.

6. that is something repubs and dems have in common
shooting down someone based on personal attack. It is the same lowly common denominator and it has no merit as a valid criticism. It is fun sometimes though, like calling Bush the chimperor.

15. Actually, I think Condi Rice is physically very attractive...
Edited on Sat Jan-14-06 11:21 AM by The Night Owl
True, Rice doesn't always photograph well, but who does? People need to understand that photos of public figures are often done haphazardly and often without the cooperation of the person being photographed. Imagine if any of us had cameras in our faces all the time. Would we be happy with the results? I doubt it.

And I think there is a slightly sexist element to the fact that we, as a society, seem to expect female public figures to always look their best and criticize the hell out of them if they don't. Meanwhile, GWB gets away with bad haircuts and poorly tailored suits. What is up with the extra long sleeves? Awful.

Anyway, on a personal and political level, I find Rice frustratingly enigmatic. I just can't figure out what makes her tick. Bush, I can figure out. Cheney, I can figure out. Rumsfeld, I can figure out. Powell, I can figure out. Rice? Forget it. I have no idea what motivates her to lie and cover for her bosses. Raw ambition? Who knows? Maybe Rice is herself confused.
