Republicans Like Wars. There's no other way to say it. They love to start a war and have poor people fight it for them. Some of the more recent wars have been
The Iraq War. The War on Terror. The Gulf War. The Iran-Contra War. The Cold War.
Republicans love to talk about these wars. They love to talk about "Shock and Awe", "Fighting It Over There", and "Supporting the Troops" at the same time they are cutting funding for Veteran Health Care, Using Illegal Immigrants to Fight and Die in their wars for the hope of freedom, and forcing the soldiers to buy their own expensive body armor (and if they bought the wrong brand of armor, then revoking their life insurance coverage). But you won't hear Republicans talking about the latter aspects of their wars. And, surprisingly, there are even some big wars that Republicans don't like to talk about. And these are REALLY BIG WARS that, many times, actually impact the entire world. Here are just ten of these wars that you won't hear Republicans talking about. Let’s remind everyone about these wars during this election cycle. Maybe some people will realize they are on the wrong side.
1. The War on Immigrants (aka The War on Brown People) Description: This most recent Republican War was designed to politically rally the Republican party; throw the dog a bone in other words. The Republicans running the government have become members of the Fascist Party and are not actually Republicans anymore. But they still cannot operate without the support of the Republican Party. So they decided to give "their peeps" something they could really sink their teeth into: a country dividing racist issue with economic undertones. The Republicans are tired of all these poor brown people immigrating into this country the only way they can: illegally. And they have to do it illegally because Bush has made it nearly impossible for them to immigrate legally. But Bush isn't making it hard for immigrants to come to this country because he doesn't want them here... he wants CHEAP LABOR for his CORPORATE BUDDIES. And that's what is really hurting the working people of the middle class (see "The War on Workers" below). The Combatants: Republican Poor and Middle class displaced workers vs. Immigrating Poor Brown People The Instigators: Republican Supported Corporations hiring Illegal Immigrants at far below the minimum wage The Weapon Dealers: The Bush Administration: Making it impossible for poor brown people to immigrate but not enforcing the immigration laws.
2. The War on Sick People Description: This sick people of this country are wasting useful resources.... resources that could be redirected toward war profiteering companies like Halliburton and Blackwater in order to hire mercenaries to fight illegal wars in the name of "freedom" and "defense". Therefore, we must tell the sick people to dry-up and die or move to one of hundreds of countries that offer free, national health care to all their citizens who get the benefit of the most advanced medical technologies brought to you by the taxpayer funded research in pharmaceuticals, medical imaging and advanced procedures. But Americans cannot benefit from these technologies because they cannot afford the procedures and in most cases, cannot even afford coverage for the most basic of services. The older members of our society, who have paid their dues, are forced into diminishing Medicare and Medicaid plans that won't protect them unless they've saved for their medicines and doctors themselves (See The War on Poor People or The War on Old People below). And, now, if the technologies or procedures don't follow the rule of Christian Bible, then our Government refuses to fund it, even though the majority of people who could benefit from those technologies are taxpayers who are not even Christians or if they are, believe their taxpayer dollars *should* be used to fund these technologies (See "The War on Freedom" below). The Combatants: Healthy Republicans, the Republican Christian Clerics and Republic Christian Fanatics vs. The Sick The Instigators: The Insurance Corporations (Health, Mal-practice, etc) whose industry would be destroyed from a national health-care plan. The Weapon Dealers: The Republican Lawmakers who have continuously blocked health coverage for Americans, reduced medical benefits to seniors and cut funding to research groups that don't meet the far right fanatical Christian's standards.
3. The War on Veterans Description: Plain and simple, our boys go over, fight the illegal war based on lies, get wounded and come back with little-to-no help from the Republicans who sent them to fight. The Combatants: Greedy Republicans vs. The Wounded American Soldier The Instigators: The Bush Administration using tax-cuts during wartime to boost approval ratings and win elections The Weapon Dealers: Wealthy, Dumb and Greedy Republicans who will sell their votes for tax-cuts
4. The War on Old People Description: Unless Old People are Wealth Republicans on a 400 million dollar Exxon (or other equivalent wealthy pension), they are simply an unnecessary burden on the taxpaying Republican. After all, Republicans save up for their retirement, and if they don't they deserve what they get when they can no longer work. The FICA, SS and Medicare taxes taken out of the Republican paycheck is simply too much a price to pay for the non-wealthy old people. They don't deserve the humanity of hard-working Republicans. Even though most Republicans would pay less or no more than they currently do, by relieving the artificial cap on SS withholdings, the system could be made indefinitely feasible. The Combatants: Greedy Republicans vs. Old People The Instigators: Corporations who also pay a portion of SS and Medicare taxes that need to eek out more profits and Financial Corporations who would inherit 100's of BILLIONs in business with forced savings plans. The Weapons Dealers: Republican Lawmakers and The Bush Administration who realize they must raise the cap on the wealthiest 0.5% of Americans but don't want to lose the political donations of these 0.5% if they do.
5. The War on Workers (aka, The War on the Middle Class) Description: These miserable workers are to blame for the economy. After all, they've made it so difficult for Republican executives to become Billionaires that the executives have sought cheap labor overseas. By wanting such things as medical care, a livable wage, and a pension plan that isn't liquidated in a corporate bankruptcy, these workers have single handedly destroyed America. This war is almost over, as the workers have nearly surrendered. Most workers who are unemployed have given up looking for work and are no longer counted as part of the unemployment rate. The Republicans have certainly won this war. The Combatants: Rich Republicans vs. Stupid Republicans The Instigators: Corporations who need to make ever-increasing profits The Weapons Dealers: Republican Lawmakers who have suppressed the minimum wage and given BILLIONS of DOLLARS in TAX CUTS to corporations IN ORDER FOR THEM TO HIRE WORKERS OVERSEAS and employ undocumented workers below the minimum wage (see The War on Immigrants above).
6. The War on Poor People Description: Like Old People (see The War On Old People above), Poor People are a burden to the Republican version of society. Taxpayers must pay, one way or the other, to take care of these freeloaders. Why can’t they just get a job or something? (See The War on Workers above). The Combatants: Greedy Poor Republicans vs. the Poor The Instigators: Republican Controlled Media scaring poor Republicans into thinking other poor people are making them poor and that the Rich Republicans and Corporations are they benevolent caretakers. The Weapons Dealers: Republican Lawmakers and the Bush Administration who are paid by Rich Republicans and Corporations who get laws designed to give them massive tax breaks and control of global markets.
7. The War on Women Description: Women are the biggest risk to the Republican way of life, with their logical arguments, use of words and control over the fertility process. Republicans want Women to just shut up, serve their husband and bare children. They aren’t allowed to make mistakes (like men are) and if they are impregnated due to rape, well, then they were asking for it. After all, the life of a zygote is more important than the life of the child that zygote becomes when it’s born (and we don’t even need to mention how much more important that zygote’s life is than the woman who is bearing it). And since Women shouldn’t be allowed to use birth control (because, after all, it could prevent a zygote from forming), then she should take a virginity pledge and go to the virginity ball with her Daddy until she is ready to bear children. Women will be allowed to continue to vote, so long as they vote Republican (but the Voting process should automatically take care of that… see The War on Freedom below). The Combatants: Republican Religious Fanatics vs. Women The Instigators: Republican Politicians who need a wedge issue and want to ensure they get the Religious Fanatic vote The Weapons Dealers: Republican Religious Clerics who are willing to risk their church’s tax-exempt status and tell their flock they will burn in hell if they vote for a Democrat. They are not really risking their tax-exempt status so long as Republicans remain in power.
8. The War on Judges Description: Republicans are angry when Judges deliver justice. When Republicans break laws, get caught and the Judge delivers a sentence, those judges must be evil liberal activist judges. Just as the Republican Lawmakers have won the War on Voters via Redistricting (a historical war not discussed here), they are now winning the War on Judges with a three-step strategy: Step 1: Tell Republicans it’s ok to attack, harm and kill activist liberal judges (and give out their addresses) Step 2: Change the Circuit Court Structure so there are more circuits, not necessarily representative of the constituents, but so you can stack the courts with more Republicans (whether or not they are qualified) Step 3: Threaten to use the “nuclear option” in Congress to get rid of the filibuster so the Democrats will approve 99.9% of the judicial appointees. Well, this war is nearly over… The Combatants: Republican Politicians vs. The Judicial System The Instigators: The Republican Party who seeks ultimate control over all three branches of government. The Weapons Dealers: The Republican Lawmakers changing the circuit court and Democratic Lawmakers who convince the party they need to back down or lose the filibuster
9. The War on Journalists Description: Ah, the Liberal Media, the greatest evil of the 20th century has nearly been defeated. Oh, but there are a few pockets of resistance left: the Internets and the Comedy Channel (specifically, the Today Show with Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report). The Journalists have all but been silenced or recruited directly to report exactly what Republicans want them to report. Oh sure, some things just get out and have to be reported, but be sure, that still gives Republicans the excuse they need to continue this never ending war by declaring the Liberal Media is to blame for bad things that happen to Republicans. For example, when the Abramoff Scandal hit and appeared to be on the verge of taking down about FORTY REPUBLICAN lawmakers, the media had to report it, but they did so, falsely reporting that both Democrats and Republicans were guilty of corruption in this scandal even though the media couldn’t produce a single Democrat who was guilty. Then Tom DeLay was indicted. Duke Cunningham was convicted. Abramoff plead guilty. It all seemed to be reported and gone with the wind. But then there was William Jefferson, the ONE DEMOCRATIC POLITICIAN who had been caught taking money, and the “liberal” media reveled in the two words they could say together: Corrupt Democrat. The Combatants: Republicans vs. Real Journalists The Instigators: Republicans declaring falsely the “Liberal Media Bias” The Weapons Dealers: Fox News, RW talk radio, and all journalists paid by the Administration directly to report only the news fit to print (by Rove) 10. The War on Freedom Description: In order to win all these wars, Republicans need POWER. And they can’t have the Power they need to win if we all have these silly freedoms that the founding fathers granted us in that “god damned piece of paper*” called the Constitution of The United States of America. But Americans don’t give up their power so easily. The Republicans have discovered in the post 9/11 world, that Americans will give up their freedoms for one reason: Security. Republicans have become experts at Scaring Americans (Anthrax, Duct-tape and Plastic Sheeting, The Homeland Security Color-coded Warning Chart…). Republicans seem to have a convenient boogey-man that raises his head right around elections or when a particular Republican’s poll-numbers are suffering: Osama Bin Laden seems to produce those tapes right on cue (why haven’t we caught this guy yet?). Americans have been given a false sense of security and have happily given up their first Amendment right. Free speech is not allowed in the presence of the President and if you do speak out, especially in a political group, the FBI or DHS monitors you. If you protest, you are considered a terrorist. Americans have given up their 4th Amendment rights: the use of Warrants is no longer necessary. The government is allowed to tap your phone and most Americans are ok with it. American citizens no longer have a right to an attorney or due process. Americans can be whisked away to another country where they can be tortured without ever given a chance at a legal defense. That’s ok; our government is a system of checks and balances right? Sorry, now that the executive branch no longer needs warrants and citizens no longer have a right to due process, there is not much need for a judicial branch. Oh and all those laws that are being made, they’re not really necessary either. Bush has subverted over 750 of them with signing statements. If you don’t know whom the Combatants, Instigators or Weapons Dealers are in this war, well, then I’m afraid it’s a little too late to save our Democracy. I’ll just leave you with this quote:
“I told all four that I felt like this election happened for a reason; that it pointed out — the delay in the outcome should make it clear to all of us — that we can come together to heal whatever wounds may exist, whatever residuals there may be. And I really look forward to the opportunity. I hope they've got my sense of optimism about the possible, and enthusiasm about the job. I told all four that there are going to be some times where we don't agree with each other, but that's okay. If this were a dictatorship, it would be a heck of a lot easier... ...just so long as I'm the dictator ." --George W. Bush, Washington, DC, December 18, 2000, during his first trip to Washington as President-elect
*Bush called the U.S. Constitution a “god-damned piece of paper”.
