Guns flown in for Iraqi police 'leaking to insurgents'
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/file_on_4/5006196.stm

The United Nations agency responsible for decommissioning weapons in Eastern Europe has criticised arms exports to Iraq.

Seesac has told File On 4 that the sale of large numbers of guns from Bosnia has compromised its operation.

There are also concerns that some pistols flown from the UK which were intended for Iraqi police are now in the hands of insurgents.

A Foreign Office Minister is being pressed for details of security checks.

My guess is that the Iraqi police and the Iraqi insurgents are one in the same.

1. The headline's way off though.
"concerns" that "some" pistols are in the hands of insurgents is not the same as 'leaking to insurgents' spoken as a fact and not a concern.

I thought no one even knows if the guns went to the right country.

2. You'd figure that the all powerful gun lobby would insist...
on getting their slice of the pie by having the Iraqi police and military be equipped with nice shiny new Colt, Winchester, or Smith & Wesson firearms rather then old communist bloc era stocks from Yugoslavia.

3. 200,000 weapons (20K were AK47s) without a trace?

After first seeing this a few days ago, I started thinking.

I spent a lot of time in combat zones way back when and I certainly understand how big lots of things can go missing.

But these weapons (and what had to be millions of rounds of ammo) were not in a U-Haul truck. An operation such as this one requires cargo planes.

Where did they go?

5. Shia hero Sadr's formerly 5000 man group now runs the police with arms
going to the Shia both in and out of the police.

We know about this - and our media does nothing because the GOP does not want the media doing bad news stories.

I guess "gone missing" is not as bad as arming the civil war fighters.

4. I wouldn't put it past this administration to sell arms to insurgents
where there's profit to be made....

6. Have they not noticed that there is a lack of control over
just about every aspect of the Iraq govt., military, police, oil, water, food supplies, etc. Also, I agree with your "guess".
