Advertise on internet: DU really going underground! Last chance to read!
It works for ordinary merchandise: final opportunity! Going out of business sale!

However, DU wouldn't be going out of business. Instead, the messages would be visible to members only. Only a few selected greatest threads would be visible to the general public.

Maybe new people would be able to join, but would have to send an email to request a test, receive a customized test (randomized a bit so that there is no one answer key), and then send their answers.

Maybe new people would not be able to join. Instead, there could be a new public DU for people who are not yet members of this board.

In any case, the NSA would have to get on the case to keep reading this DU. They might be more interested in the messages from a secret club than public messages. Who knows, the NSA might even learn something!

3. Go deep underground? What for?
The big draw to this board is that it's open to new members (our lifeblood), as long as they don't make offensive statements (always controversial).

Remember, we're supposed to be the alternate conscience of the nation.

Going elitist or exclusionary is supposed to be beneficial?

4. "Going elitist or exclusionary is supposed to be beneficial?"
DU is already "exclusionary" in the sense that people who violate the rules are excluded. As for "elitist", are you sure that the mere act of passing some kind of test makes one a member of an elitist club? If it does make the organization elitist, then would you say that no matter how much studying one had to do to pass and no matter how many attempts one had to make before at some point passing the test, those who pass are members of an elitist club?

Suppose a system of elementary education for the general public, starts in childhood with one school year of kindergarten and continues to the numbered grades one through six. Should someone who has passed grade six not have been required to pass any tests?
Are those who passed grade six all members of an elitist club?

(Alternatively, there may be nursery school before kindergarten, but children in kindergarten are not expected to have completed nursery school.)

We are all huddled here at our one computer
in The Olde Manor Sanitarium, rooting for
you and your secret Democratic Underground.
Go, Boojatta, Go! We are behind you all the way!

8. "We are all huddled here at our one computer"
I suspect that those words were intended to be sarcastic.

However, you are the person who suggested that an underground organization might be "huddled here at our one computer."

Would concentration of the members of an organization in one pinpoint of a physical location contribute to making the organization able to survive?

Perhaps the World Trade Center had an association of tenants. Was that association (if it existed) underground or public? Was it vulnerable or not?

9. I don't see how you could get sarcastic out of that, Senor.
You've never seen us. However, when you say...

"Would concentration of the members of an organization in one pinpoint of a physical location contribute to making the organization able to survive?"

I ask you if you literally mean "in one pinpoint of a physical
location"? Because if you do, do you see a problem with that? That
is the first question we would like to ask you first. Then we will
perhaps move on to the weightier issues involved in this discussion.

10. literally mean "in one pinpoint of a physical location"?
I suspect that it's a matter of perspective.

When you look, with your naked eyes, at stars other than the Sun, do you see a pinpoint of light or do you see a colored disk of light?

If you were on the moon and using a telescope to look at the Earth, would you see a city as a small region or as a pinpoint?

11. Well, how far away do you think we are from you?
I'm glad you seem to agree to work out the geophysical details
before we proceed any deeper into this mine of golden possibilities.
It may seem irrelevant now, but things that were irrelevant at first
later came to be most relevant indeed. After all, we could be
neighbors and not pinpoints at all.

12. I'm in!
A 'few members only', exclusive elitist DU, using cryptic posts and secret handshakes (or secret smilies) is just what I've been waiting for. And I'm really fond of teaching the NSA something, too! Great idea! Have you talked to Skinner yet?

:sarcasm:
