Post your eulogy at PBS's Memorial Day site.
There will be a Memorial Day concert starring some of the usual suspects who usually show up at these things, mostly country "music" stars and a smattering of GOP friendly D-list Hollywood personalities. The link goes to a form where you can post your own eulogy for a fallen loved one to be posted on the site and supposedly read at the event. This is where you all come in.

For those who have actual fallen loved ones to eulogize, this is your opportunity to put the DU stamp on what would otherwise be yet another "give Bush a chance" event. Alternately, you can write up something on someone else whose story has touched you in some way. Either way, we can help drive home the point that these men and women, our best and brightest, died needlessly, for no good reason, and that those who would send our sons and daughters to die in such a way should not be allowed to get away with it, especially on Memorial Day.

1. I hadn't heard about this transparently jingoistic bullshit deal.
Anytime they have a gathering of country music morons waving flags I shut it off.

2. My submission
It would be better if we didn't have to eulogize anyone. The ongoing conflict in Iraq has been a colossal waste of money, resources, and most of all, the lives of our best and brightest young people, who joined our Armed Forces with the intent of serving and defending their country, yet were sent into harms way for no better reason than to prop up an incompetent figurehead of a President. I find it incredible that so many people continue to allow those would use our troops for such baldly political reasons to get away with it.

That the one person who could have put an abrupt halt to this unnecessary war, but chose not to (former Secretary of State Colin Powell), has been invited to speak at this event insults those who would otherwise willingly support the troops through thick and thin. He knew full well that there were never any weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, but still repeated every lie manufactured by the Bush administration, and by doing this, he betrayed the troops he once so proudly led.

So I guess this eulogy, if it can be called that, goes out to all of the nearly 2500 American soldiers who died in Iraq. They deserved far better from their civilian leadership than they received.

3. What? No takers?
I'll kick this one time, and if it sinks again, I'll let it sink. I just think this is worth a second chance.
