Why do we feel uncomfortable with multiculturalism?
There was a time when I felt that our country was going to be overrun by another culture and we would lose or heritage. Then I got to thinking and now I feel that what we see as our heritage is just what we are aware of during our life time.

This country has gone through many decades where there were more than one culture living side by side. Back then there was a lot of racism and the cultures tended to live in communities of their own kind. Archie Bunker had a name for everyone of these different cultures.

Today the cultures live intermixed on one community more than before. Maybe that is what is making us so uncomfortable.

We will all pass on and those that come after us will live in their own cultural world probably far different from ours. It is impossible to hold back the changes that are coming. To try and do so effects our lives negatively I think because we have to take on the trappings of bigotry and racism even though most of us will deny it is our motive.

It is my belief that if you learn to accept the changes that are taking place you will have a more peaceful and happy life since you don't have to dwell in so much negativity.

That's how I see this need for English as a national language, fear of multiculturalism.

1. It is not "fear of multi-culturalism"

It is the fact that people are entering our country illegally, then demanding their "rights", demanding signs be in 2 languages, demanding classes be taught in Spanish, draining rather than adding to the economy. If illegals will work cheaper than Americans, what does it do to our work to increase wages? And the jobs "Americans won't do"? They'll do them if they're paid a fair wage and they get hungry enough. Again, this stance is NOT anti-immigrant. It is anti-ILLEGAL immigrant.

2. We shouldn't have any borders anyway.
Borders are nothing but geopolitical lines on a printed map. When I cross the Rio Grande to visit Mexico, I don't see this bold black line going through the middle of the river. Borders exist in our imagination and our minds.

5. People don't own natural resources, just let the corporations have them.
Representational government isn't necessary, just let the corporations run things.

The elites count on people like you.

3. The biggest thing we have to fear is fear itself.
Change is scary. Uncertainty is scary. Both are a real part of the world. Don't be scared, just get on with life, enjoy it, work in it, love in it. Some people have difficulties with this.
