Apophis to attack earth!
Edited on Fri May-19-06 08:56 AM by antifaschits
No, this is not about Star Gate. Honest.

Today's Chicago Trib reports that the asteroid Apophis, more than 1000 feet across is hurtling across the solar system, heading towards an impact on earth in 2036, April 13. That is large enough to take out an entire state. Now, if we could gather all the ultra-right bible beaters in one state and see how well their prayers work on asteroids . . . .

(on edit) My spellink is liek those SC people starting a new country.

2. To quote an Arab proverb...
"Put your trust in Allah, but don't forget to tie up your camel first."

If anyone thinks prayer alone will turn aside a meteor, they are too stupid to be allowed to survive the impact.

6. That movie was so ridiculous.
Mainly because it requires you to believe that it's easier to train an oilman to be an astronaut than to train an astronaut to operate a drill.

11. I HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE that movie.
It isn't even a good bad movie. In my opinion it's one of the worst movies ever made.

Asteroid impact ruled out at last

Earth was finally given the all-clear today over an asteroid that threatened to collide in 2036.
Latest studies show that the 300-yard wide space rock, called Apophis, will safely miss us on April 13 in that year.
However, the asteroid will fly so near the Earth on an earlier encounter on Friday the 13th of April, 2029, that it will come closer than TV and communications satellites.
During that close flyby, Apophis will become easily visible from europe and Africa like a moderately bright star as it swiftly crosses the night sky.
Until now, astronomers have been unable to rule out a collision with Earth seven years later on April 13, 2036. ... http://skymania.blogspot.com/2006/05/asteroid-impact-ruled-out-at-last.html

and from the Chicago Tribune: "The odds of a collision are 1-in-6,250." ChiTrib

edit: interesting that the Trib mistakenly calls Apophis a comet in the headline.

19. You too???
I just had to laugh out loud! After being lied to by "official sources" and other talking heads for sooo long, at some point you become a card carrying cynic. Nevertheless, hope remains alive.

Yeah, it just struck my funny-bone for some reason. Thanks for the bounce.

:bounce:
Back at you.
