Christian Right’s Disappointment
Edited on Thu Jan-12-06 05:19 PM by The Whiskey Priest
Was just wondering, will the Christian Right be sorely disappointed if Alito on his first day on the bench doesn’t overturn Roe. You know will they be disappointed if the court is hearing a case on foreign national shipping and Alito doesn’t jump up and shout, “Roe is overturned?”

I personally think that is what they expect. The likelihood is that Roe will be chipped away at, but not done away with -- The Republican power elite need Roe to keep the Christian right masses foaming at the mouth.

ON EDIT: I understand the process. This post is half-in jest,on the other hand...there are many, many CRs that will expect it to happen very quickly.

2. In order for Roe to be overturned...
or ruled on at all, a case will first have to make it's way to the Supreme Court. That will probably come in the way of new state laws or lawsuits.

4. I know
however, I think the Christian right thinks it will happen the first day, just like my example.....any case, he just declares its overturned.

5. You really believe that?
What I think they will do is try to get a case on Abortion in front of the Supreme Court as fast as possible; preferably more than one. Possibly some town or state will pass an ordinance restricting Abortion, which will then be brought before the Supreme Court, and the court will have to rule on that matter.

6. As long as the so-called 'Christians' support him now ...
... it won't matter what happens after-the-fact. The 'Christian Right' are just another consumer group to the RW, able to be manipulated and offered up when needed.

Remember Bush's BIG talking point during the 2004 campaign, the amendment to ban gay marriage across the board?

When was the last time you heard THAT little gem being seriously discussed SINCE * was re-selected?

They'll promise the Christian Whackos anything and everything - then forget 'em until they need their support for something else.

And the saddest part is that the 'Christians' are too stupid to realize they're being played, over and over and over ...

7. They' know that an actual case has to come before the court
before the precedent, which has been reaffirmed 38 times, can be overturned.

they will look for it to happen now.

10. The average CR knows damn well and good an actual case must
come before the court before a precedent can be overturned.

They've been schooled in how this has to happen for the past three decades by the Pat Robem$omes and Jerry Fartwells of the world.

Gee, if only there were a written document somewhere that explains how these things work. Maybe then the posts in GD could be a little better thought out.

12. Roe will remain "on the books"
but an empty shell and in effect "overturned" by arduous restricitons and regulations which a Scalito court will say are not "an undue burden."

13. They will have to do it in such a way that it does not become
a states right issue. If that happens we will see a further Balkanization of US

14. The other question is.....
How soon will they expect Alito to declare prayers in public schools the preferred way to start the day?

15. I Think Rushbo Calls This The "Plantation Mentality"
of course, he being a racist and applying this to blacks when he uses this very negative term...however, this surely applies to the fundies.

These are people who are used and played with by the Repugnicans and the charlatans for money and power. They play on the fears and the wedge issues that they turn up and down wherever needed and is another "fear" card in their deck over the followers who have long been lulled into a myopic submission. If they can't find an issue...like Roe...they make one up, like Gay Marriage or the "War on Xmas".

This is part of the victimization game the Repugnicans have become so adept at...so good they now cry on cue! Losing Roe as a key issue destroys a lot of the "esprit de corps" of this strange brew of humanoid forms. ScAlito's better used in the destruction of civil liberties, protection of corporate wealth and influence and expansion and abuse of executive power...but let's use abortion to distract and distort.

Too bad more of ScAlito's financial conflicts weren't brought forward. This is truely the measure of the man. Somehow he "forgot" to recuse himself from a case involving someone he has over $500,000 invested with. Yeah, right.

17. Good Point.................
..............I've been saying this for years. The repugs can't afford to lose the fundie foamers, plus they'd also lose a lot of their middle of the road and slightly conservative voters, specially those who are more liberal on social and moral issues.

on the stick for the GOP. To make the fundies get out and vote. The religious right have got to be the dumbest bunch of fuckers alive.
