Important facet of the plan to use National Guard on the borders.
I don't want to imply that Bunnypants in any way clearly stated the plan for sending Guard forces to the borders, but after listening to his statements several times, it seem pretty sure that he is requesting 6,000 troops a year, to serve in two-week rotations. Running the numbers, this is ~= 460 Guardsmen at any given time. To call this a token gesture is an exaggeration.

Forget the "National Guard to the Borders" debate. At the most, it is trivia.

4. the majority of the Guard is not in Iraq at any one time
In total, the Army Guard has about 331,000 soldiers, 94.5 percent of its authorized strength of 350,000.

About 40-50 thousand of those are in Iraq.
