John Conyers :" We're Doing a Heck of a Job" (Rove)
Edited on Tue May-16-06 09:29 PM by cal04
Karl Rove entertained an audience at the right-wing think tank American Enterprise Institute regaling them with tales of how the White House has increased the tax burden on the wealthy and curtailed federal spending during the Bush Administration. Perhaps reflecting on his days in charge of the Katrina relief, Rove offering the stinging endorsement, "we're doing a heck of a job."

Struggling to guide the discussion to a fact-based ground, NPR's Mara Liasson inquired of Rove why "so many conservatives don't seem to agree with you and are really up in arms about spending."

"They're missing the facts," Rove said.

Ahhh. The facts. Such a difficult concept to get one's head around these days when being tasked with promoting the accomplishments of the Bush Administration. That pesky evidence keeps popping up at the most inopportune times and, darn it, those people around the country are actually angry about how the war is going. In one of the few truthful utterances of his major policy address, Rove offered that "we're in a sour time." You got that right Karl. And not surprisingly, most of America agrees with you on this one.

In today's Washington Post poll, the president's job approval hit an all-time low (sounds like a refrain, doesn't it?). But even more revealing is that his job approval dropped 5 points in one month and, among Republicans, his disapproval nearly doubled in a month to 30 percent. And for Congressional Republicans, this albatross of an administration has lowered their job approval to 49 percent approve, 47 disapprove among fellow Republicans. More from Washington Post's poll analysis:

Democrats are now favored to handle all 10 issues measured in the Post-ABC News poll. The survey also shows a clear majority of the public (56 percent) saying they would prefer to see Democrats in control of Congress after the November elections. Only a third want the GOP to remain in the majority.
These are sour times, Mr. Rove. And most of America realizes it.
