4. I think it's possible
I've been talking with my mother about her parents. We don't know if any of my grandparents were legal immigrants or not. They all became citizens but their status when they arrived is a question.

7. Yes, but are you Attorney General of the United States?
The issue at stake here is making policy that is harmful to others while your own background is in question.

3. If Alberto is "unsure" about something....
rest assured that he knows the exact answer--he just doesn't want to reveal it.

BLITZER: Give us your -- tell our viewers who aren't familiar your personal story, how you got to where you are, your grandparents, your parents. They struggled, they came here. I don't know if they came here legally or illegally, but give us the story.

GONZALES: Well, three of my grandparents were born in Mexico. They came to Texas. My parents -- both of my parents were born in Texas, extremely poor. My mother...

BLITZER: But when they came to Texas, were they legally documented, were they unlegally documented?

GONZALES: You know, it's unclear. It's unclear. And I've looked at this issue, I've talked to my parents about it, and it's just not clear.

But in any event, my mother had a second grade education -- my father had a second grade education, my mother had a sixth grade education. And my father worked construction.

10. Mine were.
We have photocopies of Ellis Island logs to prove it. Along with a ton of other stuff. It's a bitch to do things the right way.

12. I have ancestors that were here before Ellis Island.
and some that fled fascist Italy (four family lines, all arrived at different times). They might have been "illegal", but it was just an immoral law that made them "illegal". We need to reform immigration law - let them be legal!

15. perhaps we can still have it on maps
Collective security...we are all humans... Americans are no better then Africans...or Mexicans...people that LOVE America wish to come here, work hard, and improve their lives... just like my family. I say, give them the chance.
