Santorum: U.S. has right to phone records

By John Hilton, May 13, 2006

Sen. Rick Santorum, R-Pa., says he fully supports the federal government's right to collect telephone records and other information without informing its citizens.

Speaking after a tour Friday of JLG Industries in Shippensburg, Santorum spoke at length about Thursday's revelation that the National Security Agency (NSA) has been secretly collecting Americans' telephone records.

"This is not secret information. This is information the phone companies have," the senator explained. "All they're doing is putting it into a database. ... No one's listening in on anyone's calls. It's a way for us to gather information that may be important to prevent a future attack."

Santorum is bidding for a third term and trails Democrat Robert Casey Jr. by double-digits in early polls. He met with employees at JLG and learned how the company produces the All-Terrain Lifter Army System (ATLAS) vehicles for use in overseas military operations.

3. Yea he has. What's happened to him?
I've always despised him, but at least he usually sounded coherent most of the time.

Now the guy sounds like he has early onset dementia or something.

9. do you realize this is the same idiot who said that a woman who was
raped could not get pregnant, because she secretes an enzyme during the rape that would prevent a pregnancy?

14. No, I never heard THAT ONE! I try to keep in touch with PA
politics because I grew up there, and still have a lot of friends and relatives there. I've heard a lot of really stupid statements by Ricky, but this enzyme story and this new position on spying seem to be in his top 10 BS lines!

It all sounds to me like he's decided to hitch his wagon to Shrub, no matter what. I guess Shrub can hold Ricky's hand and comfort him WHEN HE LOOSES!!!!!

17. I think he went insane
after he brought that dead baby home to show his kids.

**I don't know if this is true; it was just on someone's post about 6 months ago. Someone else may know.

19. Yes, he did do that.

I read it in a magazine profile of him last year (can't remember which one it was). He also keeps a photograph of the dead fetus in his office. They named him Gabriel, and Ricky and his wife took the fetus home so their other kids could hold it and mourn for their dead sibling.

I can't even begin to imagine the trauma experienced by those children.

On edit: I remembered where I read it. It was in the Washington Post and here's the link: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A61804-2005Apr17.html

6. "This is not secret information. This is information the phone
companies have." Well, by that logic, then, medical records are not private or secret, because hospitals and medical clinics and doctor's offices have medical records. Oh wait, they're doing that too aren't they -- grabbing anything and everything they can about the personal lives of US citizens?

This fucking "illogical logic" these people use pisses me off to no end! :grr:

10. Remember Bob Kerrey's remark when asked about Santorum
"Santorum? Isn't that latin for asshole?"

*not sure if I got Kerrey's name right, but I do remember reading of another senator asking this re: Santorum, who is viewed by many as the stupidest person in the entire Congress*

13. Yep, I remember that.
"Stupidest person in the entire Congress." He must be REALLY stupid then, because there seem to be more than a few who are pretty brainless and clueless.

8. Rick must want to lose the election.
I can't explain it any other way. First, the "Put on a Santorum '06 bumper sticker to sacrifice for your country", and now this.

I think he just wants to spend more time with his family and dead baby.

16. Okay, Mr. Santorum, you first
Who are you calling? When? How often? And for how long? Please provide as much specificity as your spongiform brain will allow. And after I'm satisfied with your full explanation of every last call you or your staff has made in the last six years, we'll get started on mine. That is, unless you're in jail.

Maxi zoom dweebie.

20. Not that it changes my opinion one whit
but if Man on Dog Santorum is for it, it has to be something bad. And once again, it is! At least Freakboy is consistent. Do we still give merits for consistency?
