Bush Weighs Deploying Guard to U.S. Border
Bush Weighs Deploying Guard to U.S. Border
By LOLITA C. BALDOR, Associated Press Writer
1 minute ago

WASHINGTON - President Bush, trying to build momentum for a major overhaul of the nation's immigration laws, is considering plans to shore up the Mexican border with National Guard troops paid for by the federal government, according to senior administration officials.

One defense official said military leaders believe the number of troops required could range from 3,500 to perhaps 10,000, depending on the final plan. Another administration official cautioned that the 10,000 figure was too high.

The officials insisted on anonymity since no decision has been announced.

The president was expected to reveal his plans in an address Monday at 8 p.m. EDT. It will be the first time he has used the Oval Office for a domestic policy speech — a gesture intended to underscore the importance he places on the divisive immigration issue.

The key questions Friday were exactly how many National Guard troops might be deployed, for how long and at what cost to federal taxpayers — as well as the problem of possible disruption of upcoming deployments to Iraq and elsewhere overseas.

1. Hmmm...This should be good. It's coming to us from the
same people who planned the Iraq War and the Katrina reconstruction.

I can see the recruiting posters now: "Join the Army and Become a Border Guard!"

3. I thought he already sent most of our national guard to Iraq
to die in his war games. Are there any left to deploy to the border? The National Guard is made up of individuals who have jobs and families and are supposed to be called up in emergencies in this country. Is he going to make them go down and guard the border? I think not.

4. I just posted on a new thread that there is talk about sending Federal
Troops and not the Guard. Lou Dobbs just had a segment on it. I don't like this one bit.

5. Wow, what an EXCELLENT, well-thought-out plan...
1). Blanket amnesty for 12 to 15 million current illegals and a "guest worker program" as detailed in the "bi-partisan compromise" currently inching its way toward a Memorial Day sign-off

2). National Guard on the borders to make sure that another 12 to 15 million illegals don't enter, because THAT would be WRONG and UNFAIR to the 12 to 15 million illegals already here demanding amnesty

3). The same border guards who alerted illegals to the presence of the Minutemen now alerting them to the presence of the National Guard, so why the hell even bother to show up unless you have nothing better to do and hey, the PAY IS STEADY...

4). "...paid for by the federal government..." WOW! How EXCITING. Er...wait a minute. Doesn't "paid for by the federal government" sort of mean "paid for by U.S. taxpayers" by default? YES, it does..."The key questions Friday were exactly how many National Guard troops might be deployed, for how long and at what cost to federal taxpayers"...

So I guess the "paid for by the federal government" pitch is just ONE MORE LIE...

NO WONDER 29% of patriotic, red-blooded 'murcans stand behind this president. Karl Rove IS NOT the "boy genius" or the "man with a plan"...that distinction falls solely on the magnificent little Oedipal substance-abusing A.W.O.L. frat-boy-in-chief, George W. Bush.

I feel tingly ALL OVER. I hope that once the amnesty / guest worker program and the National Guard scam become law he'll put on another flight suit, land on another aircraft carrier deck, and proclaim "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED."

P.S....as always, this is just my opinion. "Approval" or agreement not required.

7. LOL approval and agreement my not be required, so I'm giving
both freely. Nothing makes me happier than logic and common sense. The dub has neither. Next thing he'll be manning the boarders of Canada. Lord, deliver me from 'morans'!

8. I'm really trying to look at this from all angles...
...and yeah, everyone deserves a chance at a better life.

I just don;t believe the motivation behind Bush's push on this is helping people toward a better life.

But I do appreciate the vote of confidence on my post.

9. You're welcome, for sure. Greed and revenge are what
motivates bush. If he was all for giving people a better chance at life, no one in this country would be jobless, sick without being cared for, homeless or fighting in some God forsaken country for no reason.

6. Hmm. Let NOLA drown. Ignore Mississipi, but put national guard
on borders.

Hmm.

I do see a sort of twisted, knee jerk, drunken satggering line of logic here.
