NRA "wimped" out! (NRA cancels presentation at New Paltz!

The SUNY New Paltz College Young Republican Club organized the lecture. The NRA bailed, perhaps due to publicity surrounding a proposed SUNY (armed) militia! No one, except the NRA, supported the militia idea.

Disclosure: I support the 2nd ammendment and the NRAs stance on the 2nd, but hate that the NRAs poltical tactics against democrats.

I don't see any reason for guns to be banned on campuses. College students are adults and will be responsbile. They're not that much different than young adults who aren't on campus and are permitted to carry guns at home or at work. When I was in college in the 1980s my dorm floor had a gun count and we 21 guns out of 30 rooms on the floor. No blood baths.

As a college professor, I wish I could carry on campus as it is my place of business and should the SHTF, I would like to be able to protect myself.

4. If I got mugged in New Paltz, I would lose my wallet

If I was mugged in New Paltz, and I was packing heat, I would kill the mugger. No one is a wimp when armed. No one backs down.

My concern is that traditional disagreements that end up / result in a black eye would end up in a funeral.

I would also fear the militia would be "jumped" and their weapons taken from them by organized thugs. Ironically, this would be very easy to do (there is really no armed defense after a brick smashes your head).:shrug:

What is SHTF?

I am a bill of rights purist. I think that we should be able to arm ourselves for when the fourth reich comes to take our freedom away. We should be able to fight.

Well, you're probably correct that more guns will likely lead to more gun injuries and death but given the amount of guns in the US we have surpisingly low rates of gun deaths (although I have no data to back that up).

Usually we hear stats based on the number of gun deaths divided by the number of people, and as a result the US ranks high in developed nations. But I bet if you divided those rates by the number of guns in civilian hands in each country, you would see the US stats in a better light. But thats just a hunch of mine.

And while lots of lives are lost to gun violence, this violence is supported by poverty and the drug war. I fully support the second amendment. I want to end the drug war and regulate the drug trade. This will reduce gun crime.

A group of students, including Senators Brian Gold and Dan Curtis, Executive Secretary of the Senate Michael Peters, Senate Chair Justin Holmes and Student Association President R.J. Partington III, is in the process of forming a potential student militia.

If actualized, the militia that could be joined by any willing student will have 13 sections or “platoons,” according to wikipaltz.com. Each platoon will independently elect three executive officers, a first lieutenant, a lieutenant and warrant officer, who will have the power to compose a New Paltz Student Militia Central Council.

The first lieutenant of each platoon will serve a one month term as executive of the NPSM Central Council, resulting in a constant rotation of leadership throughout the year. If there’s a “conflict” or if “combat operations” are taking place, the Central Council may vote by majority to allow the current executive officer to remain in power until the conflict is resolved.

to destroy them. Their destruction might be legal, but I suspect that they would also face a lot of baiting and illegal activity that would put the militia at risk. I would actually like to see an armed militia beatin to a pulp (and I am a pacifist! lol).

If 5 guys are walking around with guns, it would only take one baiting situation to result in another Ohio State. No "militia" member is getting a fair trial in NY.
