Has * Made Incompetence OK? (F-ing Doctors!)
My daughter is scheduled for eye surgery today to correct a lazy eye. Last week, we were told
to be at the hospital at 9am today. The Dr's office called Monday with a list of pre-op questions. I
confirmed the time. They called Tuesday to confirm the 9am time again.

Yesterday, they called to confirm the time - there has been a change: the surgery has been
moved back one hour. Please arrive at 10am.

8:30 am today - the hospital just called to ask where we were. Surgery is scheduled for 9am.
I fill them in on the time change. They check - "no one informed us. Can you get here right now?"

My answer - no. We'll be there before 10am, just as we were told yesterday. Assholes.

BTW - the hospital is 20 miles away. It's not like hopping over to Target.

1. Surgery schedules get rearranged all the time
and next day surgical appointments are always a guesstimate, at best. I was a surgical nurse for most of 22 years, so I know it well.

My own surgery this week was rescheduled a whole day later because some damn shipping clerk screwed up. People can be bumped for any number of things: more urgent patients, extreme emergencies, malfunctioning or missing equipment, even problems within the holding area.

What happened in your case is that the OR scheduler probably screwed up and called your doc's office and they called you. Then s/he discovered the screwup and put the schedule back where it was without notifying anyone, thinking your doc wouldn't call you for such a minor chnage. They usually call if it's postponed to the afternoon, but not for just an hour's difference.

That's my educated guess, anyway.
