When the person asked me why I was switching from AT&T to
Vonage...

I said, your company just handed over billions of phone records and Email information over to the government with out so much as a how do you do....

The woman paused for a second and then asked...

That's not my department...

I said....

How long before I am out of your system....

Well, who's your ISP and what backbones do they connect to?
Edited on Wed May-10-06 11:48 PM by Roland99
BTW, I've been landline free for about 2 1/2 years. Been on Vonage for about 9 months.

5. Well, they'll be tapping into that data soon too...
...I've been on Vonage for 2 years (VOIP). The ISP will be forced to put in (and pay for) equipment so the feds can suck up every bit of data that goes across their lines - including our VIOP data.

17. I would think that encryption software will not be far behind...
There would be a lag, but it would be easily switched on and off for privacy in business calls where one would be concerned of the competition eavesdropping.

I'm Packet8 here (VoIP). Cheaper than Vonnage and they had more area codes to choose from. They just don't have the cool theme music.

21. Same query when I moved to Working Assets from AT&T several years ago
When I telephoned in the change order, the young woman on the other end asked me why, and I told her that her company had just announced the layoff of 10,000 employees and their stock went up at the news, which I found disgusting. I can't remember what else I added to that.

She lowered her voice and told me she completely agreed with my observations, and that she was looking for another employer even as we spoke. We had a rather amiable chat about corporate America.

A couple of weeks later I got a phone call from a young man who sounded like he was working a phone bank. He asked the same "customer satisfaction/why are you leaving" question, but very quickly got very defensive when I told him what I thought of AT&T.

It left me shaking my head at the blind loyalty of this exceeding low-level and disposable worker...

6. AOL asked my husband
if we were not worried about Bin Laden getting his information out in this country. He laughed so hard that we were able to get out of the contract without problems.

10. It sure is
I heard so much about that but apparently they were ready to let people go who were ready to blast them for being such stupid scare mongers.

Great story by the way. Funny, not my department, lol.

18. SBC *Is* AT&T
SBC bought AT&T and then changed their name to AT&T. AT&T was primarily long distance and cell phone service at the time of the sale. It's the same SBC employees and equipment just with a new name.

20. Bear in mind that Vonage buys services from AT&T
And other telcos.

The Telco business is highly incestuous. Any Telcos biggest customer is other telcos and they lease each others lines all the time. I remember a few years back when MCI was AT&T biggest customer and AT&T was MCI's biggest customer.

btw, Vonage rocks and is a great bargain. But rest assured, your voice traffic is running over AT&T somewhere along the line.
