I agree with the Mrs. Alito bashers, but.....
aren't we playing into the repukes hands by starting thread after thread about her little hissy fit? It was propaganda. It was done to distract.

The corporate media will talk of this and nothing else. Do we have to follow their lead as well? I mean, sure, it's fun to talk about and easy to understand, (that's why simple minded repukes like it), but it DOESN'T HELP US! It helps them.

Instead, shouldn't we be e-mailing our senators and perhaps the media with our concerns. Tomorrow is the last day of the hearings, I believe. Shouldn't they know that some people out there understand the seriousness of this issue?

Okay, sorry for the  ! I'll get off my soapbox now.

1. EXACTLY!! Who Cares?
Big frickin' deal. If anything, she's an embarassment, and another sure sign how fucked up this country is, and that this idiot's husband is going to be one of the most powerful individuals in this country.

The guy is going to be on the Supreme Court, and it's another indication that we're screwed, and our country is headed downhill.

BUY GOLD!

3. Hey-
if your spouse wants to be a Supreme Court Justice, you better be hard skinned and hard nosed. Otherwise, you aren't worthy of being that person's spouse.

If not, you have no business sitting behind him at televised hearings!

It's all an act of kindness and concern and compassion that we ask... dump the bum.

5. Did you see it?
I just wanted to know, (non-accusingly). I watched it and have to say I 100% believe it was real, and not staged. It seemed totally genuine.

I do agree though that the focus on it is definitely a distraction that we should've let whiz by us.

This is a message board. How does a thread help 'them' do anything?

13. This concept has eluded me for years
Many DU'ers seem to be under the impression that what we post here is funneled directly into either the newsroom at CNN or into the public conciousness via some telepathic transference.

We. Really. Aren't. That. Powerful.

:silly:

16. I disagree with you.
We can be as powerful as we want to be. I don't want to boast, but last night I spent several hours sending a very simple letter to every newspaper listed in the DU research forum. Only one paper that I know of has decided to print it so far. Today W says that a congressional inquiry is welcome. One determined person has the power to change this country. To paraphrase an Alice Cooper tune, we have the power.

17. You miss my point
I was referring not to LTTE's or other personal actions but to what we post here on DU. If we spend too much time going over <insert whatever topic is being beaten to death today>, we aren't "helping them". We aren't doing much of anything except posting on an internet forum. It won't change any course of events, unless some rightwing troll using us for inspiration for their latest hatefest is really that important, which I doubt it is. People like Malkin don't need DU to spew. Plus, nothing is stopping us from using this forum to attack her right back and we do all that the time.

19. I, for one, agree with everything you've said in both posts above
Edited on Wed Jan-11-06 10:03 PM by txindy
This isn't about outside communications, this is about DU internally. The idea that we can't talk about what we want (in whatever way we want, as long as the rules are followed) on our own message board is wrong. Worse than wrong, it's censorship. Saying we're not helping our cause or that we're giving them ammunition makes no sense to me. Not every last thread is about a substantive issue. It doesn't need to be.

You said it far better than I could, BTW. :toast:

26. DU is one of the best places to get information and news
I agree that much of what is posted here is useful for "real world" activism. And I do believe some politicians, or their aides at least, lurk here to get a sense of what some of the party is thinking, which is good.

I only disagree with the idea that posting rants on this or that issue of the day in the "wrong way" is somehow going to effect... anything really, heh.

Especially those of us that live in the Red Zone. You begin to feel like you are the only one that thinks this whole scene is insane. Then of course, we get all kinds of news and sites to go to for reference.

I feel sorry for her. She was played like a pawn. The most powerful form of propaganda is to set up the "spontaneous" moment. Mrs. Alito crying is like the Iraqi lady hugging the service men. I'm sure the feelings were genuine but the entire scene sure wasn't. These people have no shame.

on edit: I'll reserve full judgement of Mrs. Alito if we find out more about the coaching her husband went through was to set this up. Truthfully I was crying for her. How could a woman be married to a man who belonged to CAP? I thought she almost cried several times before, the daughter as well, but in the "I can't believe you're such a pig" kind of way. But I also thought it could be in a "You are ruining my chances of being a Supreme Court Justice's wife" feeling. I just don't have the information to decide. he doesn't seem the type to talk to his family about his professional life. They seemed unprepared to hear it all, not just Graham's B.S. asskiss'athon. She could of cried because she knew Graham was full of shit and was tired of the pasting on the plasticon smile. Or she could of cried because all the tea parties would have been phenomenal if he didn't f' up the hearing.

Why did you start yet ANOTHER one, rather than kicking a thread devoted to the issues at hand?
