Oh Say Can You Say It?

Some Members of Congress might be embarrassed when they watch “Nightline” tonight. ABC’s correspondent Claire Shipman and a camera crew came to Capitol Hill on Thursday and caught 16 House Members and four Senators off guard, asking each to sing the national anthem.

They don't know the Constitution either.

Of course the kicker is whether these solons can sing the second and third verses of the Star Spangled Banner from memory. I fear that most of us can't.

I admit I never learned the 2nd and 3rd verses, but I did learn the 4th verse from my Boy Scout Hnadbook, which only had verses 1 and 4 to begin with.

Isaac Asimov knew all 4 and would give speeches where he led the audience in signing, and explained what each verse meant.
