My letter to Tim Russert
Journalism, is the reporting of events—stating who, what, when, where, why and how events occurred and explaining the significance of those events or trends. Your interview with Nancy Pelosi today was as far from journalism as is imaginable. Instead, in glorious "gotcha" mode (I’m sure you know what that is...you should be teaching a course on it, because you are a master) you did everything imaginable to trip up your "guest."

The rapid-fire questions, coupled with manipulated images and quote after quote—-all while interrupting her were blatant attempts to make Pelosi appear foolish. You came off like a rabid dog in need of the very vaccine to remove corruption and cronyism that Ms. Pelosi talked about.

You treated Pelosi like a criminal while real Republican criminals are everywhere. Yet, I have yet to see you interview one of them the way that you interviewed Pelosi today.

Your bias is despicable. What was most telling was that after Pelosi left, your demeanor changed—and what changed with it? Ahhhh...your guests—you followed up with Republican guests and you were calm and even joked with them--and that was BEFORE the comedian was introduced.

If, as you showed, nearly 70% of the American people disapprove of Bush and the Republican-controlled legislature, then you would be doing America a great service by at least attacking both sides equally. Let the people decide who the bad guys are and vote accordingly--you are not the decider. Of course, letting Americans decide for themselves would mean that the perch that you speak from at NBC, owned by militarily invested GE, might be at stake. And gee, your hide is much more important than that of 300 million Americans—or 200 million if you take 2/3 of that number in agreement with polls.

Yes Tim I understand. It's more important to take care of your friends and family than it is to present the truth to the majority of Americans. I predict you will be using Ambien yourself soon, because it has to be hard to sleep at night knowing that you are a traitor. Good luck with the night driving episodes.

2. Excellent
You were able to write a clear and concise letter to him.

I am still way too angry to do so. Mine was filled with curse words. Thanks for the inspiration. You really nail him with so many great points.

BTW, Russert, you suck big time.

Too coarse, maybe? Nah, not coarse enough for the likes of him.

5. his interview style is so tired.."In 2001 you said this, now you say this"
Contributing to the idea that it's weak to be adaptable. His schtick is getting beyond boring. Then there's the other trick of getting people to go on record. "Will you repeal the Bush tax cuts???" He must have said it 5 times this morning. How should she know at this point...they haven't set a budget yet. Christ.

10. Colbert's "same thing on Wednesday" line is so appropro for him
He expects everybody to believe the same thing on Wednesday no matter what happens on Tuesday--or even a decade later for that matter. Asshat.

I'd appreciate it. In addition to the Pelosi matter, I'd also like to address the schizophrenic matter of him spending such a long amount of time interviewing a fake president.

23. I sent a note
...it was the most bogus piece of mainstream network journalism I've ever seen. Bullying Pelosi over two-year old quotes was disturbing

13. Russert was really disgusting today
I'm disappointed that Pelosi was not better prepared for his despicable attack. She should have been ready. She wasn't.

24. It depends on your perspective, I guess
She stayed on message pretty well, you're right; she coulda and shoulda hit back more forcefully against Russert, however.

It's easy for me to criticize in hindsight, I suppose. I don't think Russert looked like a chump, though. I'd judge him WORSE.

25. I thought Pelosi did just fine. In fact, while I've seen her stutter and
stumble often in the past, she did us all proud today. (But not as proud as Howard Dean on George's show).

15. Thank you! But mentioning "journalism" with G.E.RUSSERT
is GOING TOO FAR! The show USED to have a panel of the actual reporter variety, hence, "Meet the PRESS." A more accurate title today would be, "Meet the One Non-Journalist."

16. Good letter. On point and very civil.
I have to wonder about Russert's IQ. It seems to be quite low. He has always been so delighted and proud of his chalk board and his book about his dad. I was not impressed. I also find his weight/gluttony to be unacceptable for major network viewing. How has he kept his job?

18. Tim Russet replies
( Well we know he would never reply and probably has screens to read his mail and weed out things that are offensive to him, but in my mind this is what he would say...)

Dear Lineazelle

Just who do you think you are to tell me what a journalist should do and to lecture me on my job.
I know about the 5 Ws and I don't care because they are old school stuff that was thrown out years ago.
Journalism today is about how much money you can make and believe me I get plenty and have a right nice portfolio that will keep me rich fore the rest of my life and living in comfort in my gated community safe from the likes of you and yours.
True American have money and the rest are just like the dirt on my shoes I have to scrape off before going into my wonderful home.
So in other words I could care less what you or the rest of the rip raf of this nation thinks. I am getting mine and that makes me the good american.

his smug little face ever since he ambushed Broussard (sp?) from New Orleans.
That had to be the lowest of the low for "journalism".
