Need router help....
Can anyone help me or point me to an online resource that might be able to help?

I've been trying off and on for many months to be able hook up two computers (my own desktop and my work laptop) at the same time to my cable modem through a Linksys router. I can usually get my own desktop to work, sort of - it runs pretty slow loading web pages. Just loading the DU greatest page can take a full minute. When the router is taken out (desktop connected directly to the modem), web pages always load in seconds - and usually in less than a second.

Connecting my work laptop through the Linksys router has never worked: "Access Denied"

I did find this hint:
1. Open up Internet Explorer, type in xxx.xxx.1.1 in the address field to get into the setup GUI
2. In the Login Popup Box, enter User name 'xxx' lower case, and Password 'xxx' lower case
3. Click on the Advanced tab
4. In the Filter Page section Enable PPTP Pass Through

But when I did this I found that "Enable PPTP Pass Through" was already enabled.

Help! x(

1. Why are you instructed to use PPTP?
Although i have a different router than you, it can't be all that different. I get an ip address assigned by the provider (comcast) and let the router do all the thinking.

Here in the photo below is all the setup for the basic internet access for my PC and my Mac. From what the SMC info tells me I have no use for PPTP or PPoE. Works great.

For cable in the USA it's dynamic or static, isn't it?

The cable company should tell you either way.

2. Why are you using PPTP?
PPTP is if you need to tunnel out through your ISP, which you probably don't. You just need to NAT 2 computers behind whatever IP your ISP is giving you. Reset the router to factory defaults, plug both computers in, tell them to DHCP, and move out smartly.

3. It appears you have a problem with your router or the way it is configured
Go to

http://www.linksys.com

and look up your exact model of router (the model number should be printed on the router somewhere).

They have separate pages for wireless and wired.

On the page for your router, there should be an online downloadable .pdf manual for your router.

Download and read it thoroughly (read the paper one if you have it sitting around).

There should be a utility, if you have the setup disk, that lets you configure the router through a web based utility. You should use that to configure the router according to the manual's instructions.

If you have a plug and play router you should be able to get into its onboard programming page.

Can you at least get that far?

BTW: we have the same router

5. If you're going to share an internet connection between...
...2 computers you'll have to run the Windows Network Setup Wizard after you connect the router to your modem and the 2 computers to the router.

6. Status update
I now have both computers able to access various websites through the router. But I still cannot get into my corporate network (using IT Connection Manager) like I always can if I connect my work laptop directly to the modem. Any ideas anyone?
