Conyers: Taking Back the House

Taking Back the House

Kicking it in to High Gear

5 more months until a Democatic Majority.

I met with Leader Pelosi, DCCC Chair Emmanuel and other Democrats this week, and received a status report on efforts to retake the House this November. There is no doubt that we are playing offense in scores of seats, both open seats due to retirement or challenges against GOP incumbents. While we have a very small number of vulnerable Democrats and open seats, I am highly confident we will be able to retain the vast majority if not all of these seats in the present political environment.

I can state with certainty, that we have an agressive and committed team, from the leadership, to the candidates to the staff at the DCCC. Based on what I have learned this week and the recent polls I have seen, I believe the political opportunity is about as ripe as we have had on the Democratic side since at least the 1974 Watergate Mid-term elections. My friend and colleague Chris Van Hollen has done an incredible job on the recruitment side, and I have personally met and been impressed with many of our challengers. The fundraising has also picked up appreciably, and it looks like we will go into the elections very much at parity, thanks in no small part to the blogosphere. We are already getting geared up for a stellar get out the vote campaign, and will also need your help in that area as well.

This is a monumental effort, but today, five months out, victory is truly in sight. We will start with Busby on June 6 and go on from there. Rawstory has a good post on Leader Pelosi's recent blogger call, which lays out the case for a Democratic Majority quite well.

I know you and we and I do not agree with every decision the DCCC makes, but at the end of the day, we are all in this boat together and need to pull in the same direction.

Much more on this to come, but wanted to give you my latest thougts. If you have thoughts, ideas on specific seats and opportunities, please let me know as well.

Given fair elections, I have no doubt we would take back the House and Senate.
(But given fair elections, we would not have lost the Presidency in the first place!)

I am afraid we are in for some nasty surprises in House races in Ohio
and some other states where they control the voting machinez.

They are going to try to unseat Congressman Kucinich and as many others as they can
through massive electoral fraud.

9. Not going to work in the case of Kucinich
75% is 75%, whether there are 25,000 votes or 15,000 votes total in his congressional district. The vote suppression in Cuyahoga County is going to hurt the STATEWIDE candidates like Sherrod Brown.

10. It's More Than Just Vote Suppression
Blackwell now has the ability to totally change the results of any election in the state.
Look what happened to the referenda last November. 2-1 FOR turned into 2-1 AGAINST!

Even Dennis Kucinich is not safe from fraud on such a scale.

This may be their plan to retain control of Congress -- while we clean up everywhere that
still has free elections, the Republicans will sweep all the Diebold states.

It would look suspicious as hell, but not as bad as they'd look after a Democratic House takes over.

11. They have the power to do so--
--but they won't, just like burglars don't hit every house in the block. They are going to be selective, and I think the governor's race and the senate race is what they will focus on. (A replay of Georgia in 2002, I think.)

12. They Are in a Position Where They Must Hold The House at All Costs
In this case, that means hitting every house on the block.

That does make it much more likely that they will be caught.
But then what? Call the police? But the burglars ARE the police.

2. Now if we can just remember a few things
#1 Republicans lie better than anything else,
#2 Pukes attack when they are wrong
#3 ANY DEMOCRAT is better than EVERY Republican
#4 Vote for Democrats unless you want more empty promises
#5 And most IMPORTANT if republicans lose either house or senate it will mean the Impeachment of Bush and the Investigation of all the Lies and fraud. This will be an unsurvivable situation for the Republican Party, as they will lose all their leaders to jails. There is no deed so low as to be beneath them, Swift boating, Slander, Fraud, and Murder will all be on the table to save their DEAR LEADER and the Party OF CORRUPTION.

6. In spite of low approval of Bush/Cheney
Dems need to fight hard to win a majority in either the Senate or the House. The RW are going to stop at nothing to maintain power.
