Due to the high cost of living, a lot of the San Diego workforce lives out in the rural areas; 30 - 70 miles from work. (We used to live about 30 miles out ourselves) A good half of them don't have regular "office" or shift work hours; car pooling can be a nightmare and public transportation is spotty at best, especially the further east you live.

For the first time in a long time, the NEX and MEX(the military Exchanges), which usually runs around 5 cents a gallon less than in town due to the fact they are considered "government issue" and aren't subject to local sales taxes, is running around 3 cents above average.
