I gave my gardeners, housekeeper and nanny the day off today
Oh, wait a minute...I'm just a regular American, not one of Bush's gated-community dwellers who seem to really want those illegals so they don't have to use any of their millions to actually PAY people a decent wage. I gotta clean my own house and pull my own weeds, like average working Americans do. Never mind.

1. D'oh
that hurt.

I am in a gated community, but in order to stay home and be the live-in Nanny myself, I am also forced to clean my own toilets!!

4. Funny how the ACTUAL Republicans (the wealthy ones) are so much
in conflict with such a large percentage of their base.

The one or two percent need Bush's policies so they can keep exploiting America and Americans. They don't want to see illegals leave. They profit by exploiting them.

And they don't really give a shit about religion or morality either.

If only there were something that could unite them all, to distract the Republican masses from the super-rich's real agenda and whip them up into a mindless fury...

Then, one Tuesday in September, something exactly like that did happen...

5. Homeowners No. 1 Employers of Day Laborers

The No. 1 employers of day laborers, many of whom are illegal immigrants, are homeowners — not construction contractors, not professional landscapers.

17. Homeowners hire as often as Tyson?
I don't believe it. I don't believe the major user of underpaid and overworked illegal labor are individual homeowners. This is probably spin from huge corporations such as Tyson to make it look like they are just like every middle class American, abusing illegal labor.

About twenty years ago, my husband remodeled our home and hired a group of day laborers to help. They were clearly not illegals. Some of them were college kids. He paid above minimum, SS and other taxes. The day labor market has been around for centuries and has not always been dominated by illegals.

But now homeowners can pay less for a day laborer:

"He hired day laborers over several months while remodeling his Hermosa Beach house. One man tiled a floor and installed a granite counter-top for $1,000, jobs that Peters estimated would cost $5,000 if he used the Yellow Pages."

So he cheats the day laborer out of $4,000. How sad that he thinks it is great.

Show solidarity with the workers who scrape the processing room floor and shovel the feathers and entrails into the McNugget machines!

Edited on Mon May-01-06 03:29 PM by gatorboy
Were not talking about a handful of Mexicans that are sweeping the floors. They're obviously a bulk of the work force. Want to help out? Stop buying from the companies completely. Not just today.

All I'm hearing about here is lettuce jobs and bathrooms jobs. That these are the only jobs in jeopardy. That's spin bullshit. Entire factories shut down today...Doesn't anyone get it?

11. Wait a minute here.....I have a housekeeper
come in once a week. I am disabled and I pay her a hundred dollars for eight hours work. I don't know what I'd do without her. I used to get so depressed before she started coming to help me out. I couldn't keep up with this house. It was too overwhelming. It is not a large house but still too much for me to handle anymore. She is not an immigrant either. She is one of those americans who will do that work that they say no one will do.

She only comes by Friday through Sunday, but she is the best.

Yep, imagine that, an American who will help clean a house. Who'd have known? I thought no Americans would take such jobs. :eyes:
