1. Instead of a sinking Titanic, he said Bush Co like a rising airship...
Edited on Sun Apr-30-06 11:57 AM by KeepItReal
One that later burst into flames....

In reference to rearrangeing the chairs on the Titanic in its cabinet shuffle, Colbert said it was like rearranging chairs on the Hindingerg.

Colbert is a GENIUS with visuals for the brain.

I love the way he THINKS.

It can sock you with words and you don't really understand all of it unless you have a really wired brain.

it would be in the context of "How dare he use a Nazi reference!" and so it's just as well that they're not.

13. The Hindenburg was the flagship of Nazi Germany's zeppelin fleet....
...an airship that burst into flames and crashed in 1937 while approaching an airship docking tower in Lakehurst, NJ.

Like the Titanic, the Hindenburg was believed to be a very safe mode of travel.

The comment has been made that among the most useless things anyone could do is to rearrange the deck chairs on the Titanic as she sank. Rearranging the deck chairs on the Hindenburg would serve the same useless purpose.

17. yep....I didn't bother with the other ways of seeing it, but another thing
that's obvious is the way he nailed the unimaginative jerks who just followed the other herdbots in using the hoary Titanic cliche

talk about turning that one on its ear with a VENgeance!

pretty cool when one little phrase by a "comedian" can be dissected in so many ways, yes?

wonder if he'd considered all these angles as he wrote it "with Bill Kristol"

16. In 1933, Hindenburg appointed Hitler to become Chancellor.
Along with the Hindenburg crashing, there is the obvious Hitler connection along with the fact that when Hindenberg died, Hitler became the Supreme Commander of the German Armed forces.

When Hindenburg "crashed" the onset of Nazism was complete.

Also something interesting about the Hindenburg zeppelin (blimp*).....

"Nor was the Hindenburg immune from controversy. Adorned with swatztikas, the ship was initially used as a propaganda vehicle, dropping leaflets that expressed support for the Third Reich as it flew over German cities. Hugo Eckener, head of the Zeppelin Company, vehemently objected to using the Hindenburg for political purposes and maintained an uneasy relationship with the Nazi party. Even the vessel’s moniker became a source of contention. The Nazis objected to the name Hindenburg, and ordered the German media to simply refer to it as LZ 129. "

19. Quote
"Because really, what
incentive do these people have
to answer your questions, after
all?
I mean, nothing satisfies you.
Everybody asks for personnel
changes.
So the white house has
personnel changes.
Then you write they’re just
rearranging the deck chairs on
the Titanic.
First of all, that is a
terrible metaphor.
This administration is not sinking.
This administration is soaring.
If anything, they are
rearranging the deck chairs on
the Hindenburg."

responding....

BUT Jake Tapper had his fingers over his mouth, with a wry little smile as he said it.
right at the end Tapper shook his head almost imperceptibly

what did that mean, Jake?

were you AFRAID to laugh, or did you think it inappropriate for somebody to dare compare this regime with the Nazis?

love to hear what these aholes had to say at the afterparties

38. I wonder if he meant it that way, cause Card was the last resignee
to use that hoary cliche. when I heard it, that was all I thought: Snotty didn't have his own kids to play with, and Card was the most recent rat to shipjump

even if Colbert DIDN'T intend it to sound pedophilic, that's the way it can be interpreted, which is fine with me.

pedophilia is one of of MYRIAD crimes on the repuke list of depredations. how funny would it have been if he'd mentioned that Homeland Security PR guy that just got busted!?!
