Letter from Ken Melmen (forwarded by a disgruntled Republican)
Looks like they are selling a Microsoft product with the very MS naming "My GOP."

Dear *****
You have a powerful new tool to grow our Party from the bottom up. It's a website built around you - with your personal message, your photos, links to your friends online, and the ability to set your personalized grassroots goals. The new MyGOP activist network will revolutionize online politics - and we're launching it with a bang on May 22, with a National House Party Day.
And when it's all over, the most successful house parties in America will receive a special thank you.
Here's how you can be a part of this exciting launch. First - set up your May 22 house party today. When you create your party, you'll also be able to set up your MyGOP site with grassroots goals tied to the party - whether it's grassroots fundraising for a Republican victory in November, recruiting volunteers, or registering new voters.
Get a head start on the competition by organizing your May 22 House Party now.
Make your party a friend - raiser simply by bringing friends and neighbors together. If you recruit at least one new volunteer, voter, or donor through your MyGOP - powered house party, you and your guests will be eligible to participate in a special conference call with Republican leaders on the evening of May 22.
As a special thank you, the hosts of the five MyGOP house parties that raise the most money for the Republican Party through MyGOP from 10 or more friends will receive a special Republican edition iPod Video*. To see what it looks like, click here.
The dollars you raise, the volunteers you recruit, and the voters you register will determine the outcome of this fall's elections - and the direction of our country for years to come. Your action on May 22 will make the difference, because victory comes down to three R's: Raise. Recruit. Register. And through your personal MyGOP site, you have the power to do all three - for everyone in the GOP.com online community to see.
May 22 is your chance to bring friends together, put us on the road to victory, and maybe even earn a very special thank you. Start your party now.
Sincerely,
<@>
Ken Mehlman
Chairman, Republican National Committee
* The Republican National Committee is not affiliated with Apple Computer, maker of the iPod Video.

We need to find out the locations of these parties so we can post some signs (keep them clean: no profanity)

22. Still, it is good to know what they are doing.
If they are copying us, it means we are onto something.

3. Finding locations.
Edited on Sat Apr-29-06 11:45 AM by drm604
Here's the MyGOP page.
http://www.gop.com/mygop/Default.aspx
You can search by zip code. However, the search function appears to be broken.

Maybe we can attend some of these gatherings. Not to disrupt or anything like that. Just to sit quietly and take it all in and then report back here.

Oh the fun we could have with this. A lot of "undesirables" could show. Of course the flyers they received spoke of free food and drink.

11. I wouldn't suggest that type of disruption.
You might open yourself up to legal problems engaging in things like that.

to Democrats. I think most of the parties will be failures. It isn't very fashionable to be a republican.

Wouldn't it be hilarious if the only ones who showed up were undercover DU members?

4. So, they'll be sending out special thank-yous. . .
to the homes with the most successful parties - that would either be the politically operated "mega-churches" or the five people who show up at a McMansion.

6. Someone who hates that I'm a 'librul'...
..gave my email address to every GOP organization they could find. Now I get all the emails, RNC, RSCC, Candidates, etc. Heck, I even got a letter from Meeester Boooosh thanking me for helping his campaign!

I think it's good to get these. It's usually 2 days before these talking points hit the air. That way they can be debunked and defused before they have a chance to become the meme of the week.

7. this strikes me as a hoax. Otherwise, where is "My Democracy"
for the Democrats? You can't tell me MS would pass up an opportunity to make even more money off the Dems than they could from both parties.

9. The GOP is coopting the MS style of naming, like a lot did
with the iTunes/iMac product naming of the early 2000's

Using the My naming is perfect for Republicans. It appeals to the self centered greed based philosophy of republicans.

10. Current activist sites
The search by zipcode function on the MyGOP page seems to be broken, but the Google search URL below should turn up most of the created MyGOP sites (at least the ones that have been cataloged by Google so far). Around 70 turn up so far.

Search here: http://www.google.com/search?q=%2B+%22Raise+%24200%22+%2B%22JOIN+THE+TEAM!%22+%2B%22Register+10+Voters%22+%2B%22Recruit+5+Volunteers%22+site:gop.com&hl=en&lr=&filter=0

16. Make that a male stripper.
Or send someone from a gay escort service.
Or have a succession of (fake) Jehovah's Witnesses or Seventh Day Adventists ringing the bell every 10 minutes. This thread is really cracking me up.
(Obviously nobody should do any of this, but it is funny to discuss.)

24. He was voted the most unsexy man. He's very loud and
obnoxious. (well at least his character is loud and obnoxious)

I could send an old friend who was a professional farter. He can tune his diet for desired effect. For a GOP meetup I would say beer, steak, onions, hard boiled eggs and Brussels sprouts. The onions are for the eye watering effect. Don't want them to be able to see the exits.
