Am I The Only One Here Who Thinks The Limbaugh Story Is Nothing To Cheer?
Edited on Fri Apr-28-06 06:05 PM by OPERATIONMINDCRIME
I hope I'm not alone in feeling a bit disappointed after friggin years of waiting for the moment, only to find he got a slap on the wrist with the charges never going to trial, and received a deal that wreaks of special treatment and lightness in its severity compared to the every day perpetrator of this crime.

And what the fuck is with the $30,000 to the state? Where's the compensation to some sort of drug program or other civil programs a perp would normally pay into for such a crime???

I find no reason to cheer this just for sake of cheering. I actually wanted that fat sweaty pig to suffer a hell of a lot more for this.

On edit: Think about it. Cindy Sheehan was detained far longer for just wearing a fucking t-shirt.

1. how could anybody here disagree with you?
what needs to be done is to compare the sentence he got (or Noel Bush, for that matter), with the average street addict, caught with HOW much oxy?

he had a TON, right?

I can't imagine a typical loser getting off with NO jail time at all, and such a light fine.

DOCTORS go to jail for prescribing in those amounts....for a long time

"And what the fuck is with the $30,000 to the state? Where's the compensation to some sort of drug program or other civil programs a perp would normally pay into for such a crime???"

Because I think that's bullshit. The 30 grand is nothing more than a fucking bribe in my opinion.

It is sad that one can buy "justice" here in the US -- this says a lot about our judicial system.

I am very disappointed.

7. This is what our justice system has turned into
We really don't have a justice system anymore.

The South is the worst for corruption, too. You can bet if that was Randi Rhodes on those same charges in Florida instead of Rush Limbaugh, she'd promptly be charged and buried in the worst part of the prison to endanger her life.

Seen Southern Justice first hand. It's not pretty.

14. It indeed is something to cheer about. Most people had no hope...
that anything would be done about it. Although he's not being held accountable the way you or I would be, he is being held accountable.

This contributes to the drip-drop decline of his reputation. In conjunction with legal troubles of other Republicans that are on the news today--Libby, Lay, DeLay, etc--this shows all the more that Republicans, who lecture us about morality and ethics, have none themselves.

It shows them to be hypocrites.

The man who stood in judgment of "drug-abusing welfare mothers" and "dope smoking young black men" was arrested today for his own morality slide.

Therefore, it's something to cheer about. America is being bombarded by the Republican Immorality Play. The message is sinking in.

Quit Eeyoring other people's joy over Limbaugh's arrest. It is a good thing, no matter how you want to minimize that.

16. I Completely Disagree. It Was A $30000 Bribe To The State.
I don't cheer when well connected people get off easy whereas the poor would be prosecuted to no end. No, I don't find that something to cheer about.

Furthermore, there will be no charge on his record after the 18 months, and he has admitted nothing. You can feel about this however you want, and you can even cheer the injustice of our so called justice system. I, however, will maintain my anger that the rich go free while the poor rot in cells.

24. Were you ever deluded enough to think that Limbaugh would...
do time in prison for what he did?

Tonight, all over America, Americans are coming home to their evening news, where the main thing they'll hear (and remember) is that Limbaugh was arrested. They aren't going to pay particular attention to what the stipulations of his plea are...they are going to remember every time they turn on their radio, from here on, that LIMBAUGH WAS ARRESTED FOR A DRUG PROBLEM.

That's a GOOD thing. I explained in my earlier post why it's a good thing.

It helps Democrats.

I do care about justice. And sometimes, the justice that people get isn't administered by a court. Rush will get what he deserves...and it'll be absolutely delicious to watch.

But I have always been one to think about how things that happen today will have an impact on the future.

I also think this is one more charge in a long list of charges against the criminal repub network, so that is definitely a good thing. But it's the smug look on his fat fucking face as he knows he got away with essentially bribing the charge away that pisses me the hell off.

and he criticizes the left for their "moral decay," and said Democratic pundit bitch-slaps him with this: "You were arrested on drug charges. How can you possibly lecture Americans on morality?"

Those days are coming, and it's going to be absolutely beautiful to watch.

See? I like this Maddy. I much prefer when we are having a discussion as opposed to bickering, and I mean that.

Because this line of yours:

"Just wait until he is duking it out with a Democratic pundit and he criticizes the left for their "moral decay," and said Democratic pundit bitch-slaps him with this: "You were arrested on drug charges. How can you possibly lecture Americans on morality?" "

is one of my favorites in this whole thread.

It actually did lift my spirits a bit more about the outcome.

follows that headline.

And yes, though the headline might grab a viewer's attention, when the details are read with the "ho-hum" outcome, the viewer will generally walk away too with a ho-hum attitude.

Good headline, disappointing as hell story.

But I also think that he has been basically shown to be guilty of the crime and it should be something that we shouldn't let rest.

It doesn't surprise me in the least that he got off. The good thing about it is we have his mug shot. The fact that the rich get off is nothing new, but rush is someone we can now add to the long list to hammer the fact home.

If this was any of us we would be in jail until Monday when we could see a judge. This will be an interesting project to take on, the haves and the have nots. OPC, since you have a NYR logo for your avatar, you can relate to my feelings on this..

Remember when Dino Ciccarelli went to jail for that on-ice assault on Luke Richardson about 15 years ago? IIRC, Dino was signing autographs during his four-hour stint. I have a feeling Rush probably autographed copies of that photo while he was there.

Limbaugh won a total victory. He just had to give the persecutor a fig leaf to cover his embarrassment (you know, his little ...).

If you think this is disappointing, then you're really going to be sad the day after Fitzmas. I do not personally see a conviction for Libby, or Rove. Although Rove may be indicted. 'Course I could be wrong.
