Waiting on FEMA

In the days after the storm, Taylor said he became fed up with FEMA's insistence on centralized points of distribution for food and water, so he loaded up a Humvee with some help from the National Guard and delivered supplies to far-flung neighborhoods.

Last week, Taylor made an unannounced visit to a trailer "boneyard" where new trailers were being cannibalized for parts. He said he then walked across the street to a truck stop and met a man who was staying in a tent in the parking lot and paying $5 to shower there.

After Taylor made a call, the man got a trailer, Taylor said.

"Three days after the storm, I was doing FEMA's job for them, and 108 days after the storm I'm still doing their job for them," Taylor said.

"I don't mind doing their job, but I don't want to still be paying them for it."

1. I heard a few weeks ago, on NPR, a FEMA official who said...
...Yes they have "used" trailers, but they would not send out "used" trailers, because they didn't think people would want "used" trailers.

It's just unbelievable how clueless these people are, if you are living on the street or in a tent, a "used" trailer would be a huge step up.

2. I want a used trailer
I may be buying one this weekend. If I do, then that means my plans to move back south are definitely in motion.

A friend of mine says a customer of his passes through town nearly every week pulling a new trailer down south. Just recently he says FEMA stopped buying them.
