Poll question: Which of these should the Feminist Book Club read first (poll #2)?
Edited on Wed Jun-29-05 08:16 AM by BlueIris
At tishaLA's request, I'm putting up all of the submissions for the potential DU Feminist Book Club's first selection for a vote. Since we had quite a few suggestions in the book club thread, I'm going to post two polls. I divided them into non-fic and fic, but please vote only once, for the book you want to read the most. In the event that we have a tie, I think we could do a third poll to select a final choice. I don't think anyone should participate in either poll if you do not plan to read the book you are voting for. Just my $.02. Happy voting!

1. I picked "House of Mirth."
Because I've already read "The Handmaid's Tale" three times.

3. Oh, I didn't mean I wouldn't partake in discussion, I just...
I've been there/done that. And respectfully, to those who suggested/voted for it, I hate Atwood's prose. Just hate it.

4. The only one on the list that I've read is
The Handmaid's Tale

And I read it because of reccomendations from DU.

I found it at a booksale for .25

I've read it 3 times.

I wrote about it in an English class I took, and I had to watch the movie (we were writing about books v. media interpretation of them). Ugh. I thought the movie was HORRIBLE>

I could NOT picture Faye Dunaway as the role of the Preacher's wife. I pictured someone MUCH more Tammy Fayeish, or that woman who's now on with the Pink hair...ugh.

There's so many things in the book that, I think, make it impossible to skillfully translate to cinema. Too many flashbacks to what it was like before, etc.

Although I have to say that I'm a complete book nerd, and I've yet to see a movie that met MY oh-so-high standards for books-on-film. I think the only one that comes close to being quite accurate for the book is Silence of the Lambs, and that was pretty much word for word based on the book.

:-)
