HI!!! I didn't know this forum existed! Yay! Cause I could use some help
with a Christmas project for my daughter and grandaughters. I want to compile a CD for them with songs about being female and the power of being female and hope. I could use some suggestions for songs that aren't about women in relation to men but women and their hopes and dreams for one another.

I would definitely like to include "Wonder" (Marchant) and I Hope You Dance (Womack). Songs can be for a girl child too since some of my granddaughters are young. I just want to see if I can put together songs that can serve as anthems for them now in a messed up world.

Any suggestions are welcome.

1. Hmmmm....
The first song that came to my mind was "Women are Doing it For Themselves" (Eurythmics).

When I was a kid, I liked a Pointer Sisters song called "Yes We Can."

Nice idea for a gift!

4. Wide Open Spaces
My daughter always loved the Chicks, this was her favorite song when she was about 17, I cried every time it came on the radio.

Who doesn't know what I'm talking about
Who's never left home who's never struck out
To find a dream and a life of their own
A place in the clouds, a foundation of stone

Many precede and many will follow
A young girl's dream no longer hollow
It takes the shape of a place out West
But what it holds for her, she hasn't yet guessed

CHORUS:
She needs wide open spaces
Room to make her big mistakes
She needs new faces
She knows the high stakes

She traveled this road as a child
Wide-eyed and grinning she never tired
But now she won't be coming back with the rest
If these are life's lessons, she'll take the test

CHORUS

As her folks drive away her dad yells, "Check the oil!"
Mom stares out the window and says
"I'm leaving my girl."
She says, "It didn't seem like that long ago
When she stood there and let her own folks know."

5. Not sure if this will fit, but ...
"Thanks for my Child" by Cheryl Pepsii Riley

You came into my life, You just made everything right
And even though my man has left me behind,
I don't regret a thing for having you

Thanks for my child,
I'm really thanking you, the man above
Thanks for my child
You brought me so much joy
This bundle of love
Thanks for my child
and though your father ran away free
The love I have for you baby, Is the love I have in me

I'll stay and watch you grow, Yes I will!
I'll raise you by myself, A one woman show
You make life worth singing a song
With you right here with me,
I 'll have the strength to go on.

Thanks for my child
Here we are to today, the years have gone by
Thanks for my child
you grew before my eyes, time after time
Thanks for my child
I'll hold you in my arms, I hold you close to me
rock a bye my baby, I'll rock you to sleep

I understand your language, Your baby talk
You've got to crawl before you walk
There you are just looking so beautiful
And all the while, you are wrapped in blankets
You are my love child

Thanks for my child
I really thanking you, The man above
Thanks for my child
You brought me so much joy, This bundle of love
Thanks for my child
And though your daddy ran away free
The love I have for you baby
Is the love I have in me, Inside of me
The love I have in me
I just know, I'll never let you go, no, no
No, no, no, oh yeh
Cause you're my sweet baby

Papa can't preach, Papa was a rolling stone
He left us alone
But that's OK cause I'm you mother baby
I carried you for 9 months,
And I'm gonna carry you
Until you can carry yourself
On your own ...

6. Madonna's Little Star
Never forget who you are
Little star
Never forget how to dream
Butterfly
God gave a present to me
Made of flesh and bones
My life, My soul
You make my spirit whole
Never forget who you are
Little star
Shining brighter than all the stars in the sky
Never forget how to dream
Butterfly
Never forget where you came from
>From love
You are a treasure to me
You are my star
You breath
New life
Into my broken heart
Never forget who you are
Little star
Never forget how to dream
Butterfly
May the angels protect you
And sadness forget you
Little star
There's no reason to weep
Lay your head down to sleep
Little star
May goodness surround you
My love
I have found you
Little star
Shining bright.
