Fixie video
Check out the video titled "Austin". It's a bit of recklessness on fixed gear bikes. Lance is one of them. This is the kind of riding I recall with the greatest fondness. I don't do asphalt any more.

1. Great videos, I hadn't really seen "fixies" before

Of course now I'd like to build one up. The simplicity would probably be a big advantage, and I have a good old steel frame that would work...but then I am still building my new road bike and budgeting for the last couple things. Perhaps next year.

On edit - that's some pretty crazy riding but I have to admit that mixing it up in traffic was always one of my favorite things too.

2. My traffic mixing days are over.
I expected a scathing review. Other forums have been mixed. I happen to think that anything that can rile people in cars is a good thing. Hey, Lance was doing it. I like his mentality.

As a kid, a few people I knew rode fixed gear road bikes. No brakes. Just a very good glove. They'd grab a wheel to slow down. And these were not mountain roads to play around with. Many a time I passed cars on winding roads, going at least 50 mph.

I like the idea of a clean chainline. But then I ride full suspension and all the rest. I'll never get on a road again. In fact I'm currently bushwacking through a forest to find a way to get two trails to meet up so I don't have to "share" the road with cars. But it's a monumental task. I've been at it for weeks now. I finally broke through to where I can at least see the valley I'm going to traverse. But when I'm done...
