Hi. I am dealing with some pretty scary issues right now.
August 17th I go for preoperative exam to talk about the tube being put in my abdomen for peritoneal dialysis. It looks as if the surgery itself will be done sometime in September. Feeling very scared about this at the moment. Just thought I would vent this. Not sure if hubby (TrogL) is going to look at me in the same way...:hide: :hide:

1. Peritoneal dialysis will give you a little more freedom
than showing up at a dialysis center every few days. Some people are only hooked up at night to a machine that manages the whole business, others simply change bags during the day, limiting their time out and about to 4-6 hours at a crack. The catheter is soft and can be worn under your regular clothing when you're not either infusing or draining. No one will know it's there unless you get groped in an elevator.

The steep learning curve is how to keep everything completely sterile, since the biggest complication is infection.

I can't help you with the body issues except to say that when we get sick, our bodies do change. Mine sure as hell has. Eventually both you and your hubby will come to terms with the changes. At least with this option, you won't be out of commission for hours every other day.

If he hasn't walked out by now, he's a tough cookie, tough enough to stay.

2. Well BIG HUG to you
I don't understand what all the complications are but it sounds like a hellacious time for you. I'm sure this will be a time when you and TrogL grow even closer. That's the way it usually works out. Men really aren't that shallow when it comes to their loved ones. He'll be your hero, just wait and see.
