KO has apparently been to the NY show about Jean Shepherd called
'A Tribute to Jean Shepherd'. Shepherd was a humorist, DJ and looooved baseball (natch). There's a new interest in his work, I found one of his books 'A Fistfull of Fig Newtons' for sale in a book catalog I always get. I'm thinking of ordering it (yummmm Fig Newtons!).

KO :hi:, if you want to escape from this EDV just fling a package of Fig Newtons my way and run!

1. He would be crazy to do that.
I'd say you two find a quiet spot in the park, and share those Newtons with each other. :loveya:

BTW - when is your NY trip, Gogi?

2. July 31-August 4.
Could'nt afford a two week trip so settled for this. If I like Manhattan I might make it an annual or, at least, a biennial trip.

3. I'll be there later this week
We have a wedding on Long Island on Thursday and will be in NY from Thursday through Sunday. I'll try to stake out a spot for you, Gogi.

4. Sharon,
do you want to borrow Crispini's handcuffs, or do you have your own?

8. Yes, you should definitely do that.
If you put weird stuff in your bags, it astronomically increases the likelihood that TSA will go through them. They probably just want to point and laugh, heh. Not that I know this from experience or anything.

5. I have to force myself to get up early July 31.
My flight leaves at 6:31 AM and we're SUPPOSED to be in at LaGuardia around 10:30 AM. Could'nt get a direct flight so we change planes in Raleigh-Durham, yeech! (That yeech is not for Raleigh-Durham, I'm sure there are many fine people in the Raleigh-Durham area, I just don't know any of them.)

6. Sounds like us
We have a 6:20 a.m. flight into Kennedy on Thursday. We're going to stay at the airport here Wednesday night so I won't have to get up quite as early, but I'll stil probably have to be up between 3:30 and 4:00. I don't know how I'm going to do it.

telling me my flight won't get into NYC until shortly after 7PM, isn't that lovely! :nuke:

9. Shepherd's always been great. Most people probably know him from the film
Christmas Story, which he also narrates. That's from his book of short stories, "In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash".

10. I heard him tell that story on the radio one Christmas night.
It would have been about Christmas 1970, and we were driving back from the Bronx or other relatives' stomping ground, and we were listening to Jean Shepherd on the radio. I did not want to get out of the car; the guy was that funny. Just the descriptions of dressing a small kid for a Midwest winter were hysterical.

11. I've read some of his books and they did films of his stuff on PBS
years before "Christmas Story" came out. Screamingly funny and oh so true to life, especially if you're at all familiar with the Midwest although a lot of it has broader appeal.
