He has a history of rash behavior. And he has consistently put his own priorities over those of his country by refusing to obey orders.

While I can see Dana Milbank's point that if George Voinovich cared so much about not allowing John Bolton to get the nomination to represent the UN, he should have voted him out in committee, I see a flip side to this. You, as the recipient of strong White House "talking points" and some of your collegues' reciepts of, ahem, "slight threats," should know that Voinovich simply doesn't want to be the ONLY Republican to be the one who kept Bolton from the full Senate and out of the UN. If he became that Republican, all the bile of the right-wing mynas would have fallen on his shoulders and he would have been an open target. If he convinces a few other Republicans to bolt (no pun intended) with him, then it's not just on his porch. There is safety in numbers.
What I do want to know is what he knows. What has made him so angry that he tears up on the Senate floor? We should be looking at that and not at the fact that he teared up on the Senate floor.

and you get answered. All I could tell from what little of Voinovich's speech was he was worried about his kids/grandkids. That makes me wonder what else he knows. Bolton may well be another cog towards starting WW3.

I think you're right on target about the "ganging up" that goes on in the subcommittee. I watched Voiny on C-Span, and the impression I got was that this man cares very deeply about this country, and is very much afraid of what we're becoming.

I debated on saying anything at all but seemed it upset someone enough to complain so felt I owed them an apology. Its not that big a deal but Whirls being banned (and I have no idea why or if it had to do with the group) has left me stunned and feeling like I should be careful. Except for here I hardly ever posted anywhere else (watched too many flame wars lurking) I don't want to cause trouble for anyone.

I guess I can't help but feel a little protective of Voinie. As Yogi Bear would say, he is not your a-ver-age Repug. He really does go against the current sometimes.
