But I thought I heard her say something. I'm going to watch instead of Injustice tonight. Should be a good show.

26. My friend was lamenting that now that there was a "new" version
the old one would disappear and that her kid would only know the new one. I vowed not to let that happen. :)

35. nah, I haven't even seen the new version yet
but I understand it has a very different feel. Truer to the book in some respects, but still quite different. I think Wilder's performance alone will keep the old movie from fading completely from memory. He did such a wonderful job of projecting gentle menace and lunatic competence and all those other oxymorons that * can't make work. :7

I think it was so we all had something to watch while they were there. I fell asleep. And whenever I try to watch it, I fall asleep again. It's saving me a fortune in Vicodin!

71. When they announced who the speaker was
I was thrilled. I thought he was great. Then, not 2 sentences into the speech, it dawned on me & the rest of my Democratic-leaning graduates, that all he was doing up there was giving a political speech, bad-mouthing anything considered "liberal" instead of the usual "congratulations, now go get a job & pay back your loans" speech. How DARE he ruin MY (and everyone else's) graduation just to score political points w/the rabid right! :grr: :grr: :grr:

I consider myself lucky that every time I graduated from anything, the speaker was not a politician and was interesting.

No, wait, actually, the last time, it was Mario Cuomo...and he was good.

179. now that I've seen the segment, I'm wondering if
he's a different kind of "whack job". I think this business about doing the sculpture because everyone was obsessed with Britney's pregnancy and this is her in labor is crap... he was obsessed with pregnant Britney and he's not thinking about imminent childbirth when he looks at that sculpture. If nothing else, that head-down, bottom-up position is supposed to be useful for encouraging the baby to turn head-down before labor begins and it's a good stalling position (a friend used it when one of her children came much faster than expected; it was a matter of postponing the inevitable until the midwife could arrive) but if you're serious about getting the baby out you're not going to push uphill.

183. You know, someone pointed out somewhere that Britney actually
supposedly had a C-section because she didn't want to experience the pain of childbirth.

Now what does THAT say about this sculpture?

My understanding is that some people think this guy has ulterior motives--by saying he doesn't have a political agenda and yet acting as if he does, he creates all kinds of antagonism for people who don't like the agenda he appears to have. And THAT, they say, is the true point of his work--to irritate the hell out of people.

I can't imagine why anyone would seriously think Britney Spears had the most anticipated pregnancy in their personal lifetime...unless either they were only about 5 years old, or they personally anticipated it the most because they worship her. Hell, more people anticipated Princess Di's first baby than this one.

185. I do not for one minute understand these women who are
having C-sections to "avoid the pain of childbirth". My sister had C-sections and I saw up close and personal that it's major abdominal surgery with a long recovery time. As in several weeks. Is facing the certainty of that truly preferable to hours of labor, until you either deliver or dilate to a point where you can opt for anesthesia? I don't think so -- even after experiencing a protracted, not-fun labor.

about permanent measures just in case. Though there is the other side too, a lot of insurance companies won't pay for the wife to get tubes tied but will the husband a vasectomy because the man's is cheaper. Also here a woman cannot get her tubes tied with out hubby's consent. :grr:

were against it but have met quite a few women that were either denied or had to get hubby's to sign the form, one of which wanted her tubes tied after number 6, finally got it done after number 9 and a divorce. Though the ex is stuck with a lot more years and higher child support than he would of been 3 kids early.

Edited to add, I used to be a day care provider and took Purchase of Care (state paid because of low income) and not charge them any more than the state paid so had a waiting list. Came a cross so many just trying to get out or away from a jerk (to be mild) that wouldn't sign anything if it would make her life easier. Upside, love the kids, down side was called in to court way to many times as a witness. Really bad downside, calling the cops to come get a mom and kids because dad was looking for them, then hiding her car somewhere safe.

Might be a CYA buy the docs/hospitals there but seems to be common in my area. I saw area because I am in a tristate area and each of the 3 closest hospitals are in different states. You got me to thinking about who imposes the restrictions now. Glad you had no problems and they let you decide for your self. It irks me when it seems the powers that be don't believe a women can think for herself and it still happens.
Also things have changed, like insurance prescription plans now having to cover birth control pills if the cover viagra etc. Many here didn't cover birth control pills until forced too.

123. I long for the days
when our biggest problem was the President's unbridled lust for women. The current President's unsatiable lust for power is proving far more destructive to our country. :scared:

and so sad. *sigh*

Today was the first teensy bit of oversight in the past five years. With all of *'s crimes, Graham still said it wasn't worthy of censure, but because Bill lied under oath, impeachment was the right thing to do.

See the idiot Lindsay Graham incorrectly tell John Dean that he went to jail. See John Cornyn tell John Dean that because he's a convicted felon he probably shouldn't be testifying or listened to. Oy.

Bill will be on later. They replay Larry King. Helllllloooooo!

I so wanted John Dean to say that he went to prison for doing the very things the current administration is doing and that is why his testimony is relevant.

Edited on Fri Mar-31-06 09:27 PM by Patsy Stone
but he didn't actually go to prison. He was in the Witness Protection Program for 140ish days, was sentenced to 4 months and they counted that as time served, if I understood it correctly.

He told them off and answered back, but they were sooo arrogant. I'm sure you could stream it on CSPAN, and I'll bet they play them again this weekend.

161. somehow, I thought he had gone to a minimum security prison
but it's been so many years, I've probably lost track of who did and did not serve time. He doesn't seem like the type who would gild the lily about that sort of thing. I'll stream it on CSPAN sometime. My disk is dying and I haven't bothered to restore the streaming audio/video since the last disk format. (Long story, but I expect the disk will crap out completely in the near future so there's not much point in recompiling all those packages.)

172. I've had computer woes myself recently. It sucked.
I understand the reticence of installing all that stuff.

From the Wiki:

Dean pled guilty to obstruction of justice before Watergate trial judge John Sirica on October 19, 1973. He admitted supervising payments of "hush money" to the Watergate burglars, notably E. Howard Hunt, and revealed the existence of Nixon's enemies list. On August 2, 1974, Sirica handed down a sentence of one to four years in a minimum-security prison. However, when Dean surrendered himself as scheduled on September 3, he was diverted to the custody of U.S. Marshals and kept instead at Fort Holabird (near Baltimore, Maryland) in a special "safe house" holding facility primarily used for witnesses against the Mafia. He spent his days in the offices of the Watergate Special Prosecutor and testifying in the trial of Watergate conspirators Mitchell, Haldeman, Ehrlichman, Robert Mardian, and Kenneth Parkinson, which concluded on January 1, 1975. Dean's lawyer moved to have his sentence reduced, and on January 8, Sirica granted the motion, adjusting Dean's sentence to time served.

152. You mean, you actually PREFER a president who doesn't
bob up and down on the balls of his feet saying, "Well, yeah, you see...the thing is...well, what I'm tryin' to say is, uh...you know...well..."

* always reminds me of a kid in a school play who forgot to memorize his lines, and then the teacher, who is playing the role of prompter, whispers them loudly to him from backstage, and he says "Oh yeah" and repeats her at full volume and tries to look as if he understands what the hell he's saying.
