same thing he said. Though so far, they seem to be doing the right things to overcome it, so that's great!

I thought the Ducks were going to lose on Saturday. They were playing Stanford, and at the end of the 1st quarter, Ducks were down 21-3. They ended up winning 52-31!

Though did you know they film part of it in Atlanta? Remember in the episode where the female detective crashed into the telephone pole? That street she was driving on was on a bit of a hill. I saw that, and said, "That must be Atlanta, 'cause Detroit is flat as a pancake!"

7. I canNOT believe Keith is spinning the Cranick story that way
the cheap-ass homeowner lives in the county, which has no fire department. The near-by city DOES, but he doesn't have to pay taxes to support the fire department. So, the county & the city have an agreement whereby the county residents pay $75/year for fire protection. This idiot didn't pay the fee. I'd love for Keith to ask Mr. Shithead why the city residents should foot the entire bill while he gets fire protection for nothing.

Oh, & :hi: all! :loveya:

30. The point is, fire coverage in the county should be covered by taxes
that the county residents are levied so as to pay for the city's fire services. Asking people to pay a la carte for their fire protection, then withholding service from people who haven't paid, is inhumane and a godawful mess.

As things stand, if you owe city tax and you're behind in your payments and your house catches fire, the fire department isn't going to know and if your house catches fire, they will still try to put it out. They won't stand there and watch your house burn because you're in arrears.

37. Oh, and hi
:hi: Sorry, folks, but I don't think basic police and fire services should be on a for-fee basis, I don't care where you live. Especially because when a house catches fire and it's not put out, it spreads to the houses of people who DID pay. Which is what happened in this case. This situation should never have been allowed to happen. If it means levying extra "taxes" on county residents for city services, so be it.

38. Does the punishment fit the crime? And suppose the fire had spread?
Is that while the fire trucks bothered to show up--to make sure the blaze didn't cross the county line? You don't HAVE to pay the $75 fee, but you don't get service if you don't? That's downight thuggish.

39. So if your neighbor's house catches fire and they didn't pay
Edited on Mon Oct-04-10 07:53 PM by Berry Cool
and their house catches your house on fire, you're just going to sue their ass off, I guess?

I think if this is what your county is doing to handle fire services, it's ridiculous. Is the police service the same? If someone tries to rape you in a back alley and you manage to call 911, the cops won't show up if you didn't pay a fee--and well, that means you deserve to be raped?

And also...do your neighbors really expect you to pay double? That's like saying people who show up in the emergency room when they have no health insurance are doing it deliberately because they expect you, the taxpayer, to pay for their health insurance. Sounds like a teabagger argument to me,

which is what happened this time & why the FD was there in the first place. As for police protection, outside the city limits is the jurisdiction of the county sheriff's office.

60. Fine, but why couldn't the county collect his fee as part of his tax bill
and then take care of paying the city? Why would it be such a big deal?

Normally, when a fire department comes to a fire, they come because the fire is within the fire department's service district and they try to put it out. There is no haggling over whether the owner of the property on fire did or didn't pay their taxes and whether they're trying to chisel someone else and whether they're trying to rip off anyone to get free services. Sheesh.

59. See, I don't get it. If this fire service fee was just folded into his taxes
there would be no issue of his "forgetting" it (which, yes, does happen). Somehow it seems strange to me that this guy would deliberately skip paying a $75 fee just because he was hoping not to need fire services. I guess I'll never succeed at persuading anyone of that who thinks he was just trying to sneak past the fee and get his fire services paid by other people, but hell.

I'm of the belief that fire, police and similar services are things that should NEVER be separate-fee, a la carte services. I don't care how things are set up locally; have people pay for those services as part of their local taxes and if those fees then have to be parceled out to a city, fine.
