Begay running for U.S. House as independent (SD)

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - A Volin man who ran for the U.S. House of Representatives as a Libertarian in the last two general elections plans to run this year as an independent.

Terry Begay, 54, was on the South Dakota ballot in 2002 and 2004.

Democratic Rep. Stephanie Herseth has said she's running again, but no Republican has entered the race yet.

Begay has run twice before and won about 1 percent of the vote both times.

"It would be much easier if I ran with a political party, but I don't want to do it the easy way," he told the Yankton Press & Dakota in a November interview. "I have my own values and want my own voice."
