FM Station that doesn't suck.

FM radio station that doesn't suck.

I'm just floored. They play maybe six to 10 commercials
an hour. I'm getting like six songs in a row, and after
every three songs the DJ comes on and tells me the artist
and the name of the song of every single song they're playing.
Sometimes they even tell me the album, year, and record company.

They changes genres throughout the day. 6pm is the electronic
mix, Noon and 7:00 are 90's hours. 8:00 is all request-hour.

Small selection of what they're playing.

Live -- I Alone Love You
Oasis -- Live Forever
Poe -- Angry Johnny
Cake -- You're Never There
Everclear -- Santa Monica
Concrete Blonde -- Joey
Fatboy Slim -- Wonderful Life
Autolux -- Here Comes Everybody
Embrace -- Ashes

I don't know if it's on the 'net or not, but the frequency is
94.7 and the call letters are KNRK.

This is a format change. They used to be alternative but they
started swinging heavy towards RATM, Korn, Incubus, Godsmack,
Limp Bizkit, just really harsh. Anyway, that's when I got fed
up and stopped listening. They took what is good in little
doses and just drove it into the ground.

I listen to Randi and Mike now -- Franken and Garafalo are
now just tiring -- so I needed noise to fill up the empty
space. I happened to find the station again by accident and am
wondering if I'm dreaming or is this pretty good stuff?

Is it a new corporate format or was the station bought or
does anybody else out there have anything like this where they
are?

2. There's only one FM station that doesn't suck in my area.
And it's a college station, so there are no commercials...just PSAs. 88.5, WRAS. Shows devoted to just about anything you can think of...techno, hip-hop, punk, ska, jazz, classical, country, and so on, plus a daily all-request show, good regular rotation, etc.

It's been my experience that commercial radio pretty much sucks.

4. I have satellite radio, where there is..
a good station called Left Of Center. There's also WXPN in Philadelphia. As far as top 40 goes, sometimes I like more songs than other times. Much of it is hip hop, and I'm not a fan.

6. 89.3 - The Current
In the Twin Cities, MPR bought a classical station and now it's all indie rock/hip hop/electronica/whatnot. I really like turning on the radio and hearing The Decemberists and The Good Life and other such bands that I've grown to love as of late.
