My sweet Emma passed away this morning.
Emma, my parti-variety cocker spaniel crossed over the rainbow bridge this morning. She had been suffering from kidney failure for about 2 weeks. I had tried to help her with subcutaneous fluids that I would administer daily, but it was really too late for that. This morning, when we awoke, she had spit up some blood, and we felt it was time for one last trip to the veterinarian.

The vet told us that Emma would be gone on the count of 8, after the injection started. She was laying on a table, with me and Mr. LD holding her, right next to a large bank of animal crates. On top of the crates were some items, neatly stacked. On the count of '8', a large purple disk-like object flew down from the very top. The vet said she had never seen anything like that before. I don't know if perhaps my mother's spirit was there (her favorite color was purple), or Emma's.

I adopted Emma from Cocker Spaniel Rescue. She had such a hard life filled with abuse before she came to share my life. After several years of continued reassurance, she learned that kisses and cuddles feel good. Our time together was too short, but she was too ill. My eyes are sore from crying and my head hurts from thinking about all that has happened since this morning.

1. I am so very, very sorry.
Emma was beautiful, and she was so fortunate to have been adopted by you. I'm sure the last years of her life were filled with love and happiness. And now, she is free from suffering and pain.

In time, you will see that and be thankful. But in the meanwhile, cry as often as you need to, and give thanks to God for that beautiful life that you were able to share together.

2. Thank you Rev for your comforting words and thoughts...
I know that I will see Emma again, and when I do she will run to me and cover my face with more kisses than I can ever imagine! You see, while she was alive here on earth, she never learned how to give kisses, and I kept praying for God to show her, and let me enjoy just one kiss before she left. It wasn't meant to be. But as difficult and as much as I am hurting about today, and our loss of Emma, I know that I handed her into God's hands directly, and she is running about enjoying her new, pain-free body! And He is teaching her how to give puppy kisses-

3. God Bless
I've lost a lot of animals in my life. And it just is awful.

But, I have a ton of wonderful memories. Wouldn't have traded a minute.

"The trouble with dogs is that they don't live long enough." I don't know who said that but it surely is true.

4. My deepest sympathy
My first dog was a beautiful red cocker who was "dumped" at my house when I lived in the country. Lucie, too, had been abused and was timid and scared. But she became my best friend, and lived with me for 7 1/2 years. Happily, she died in her sleep, saving me from the hard decision.

I know the pain you're feeling. For me, it was like my heart was empty. They are such gret gifts to us.

I'm so sorry your Emma is gone. At funerals, I like to read the place in John where Jesus says "The Holy Spirit, the Advocate, will bring to your minds all that I have said and done". You're left with memories of your good times, the cuddling and kisses. Remember these, and be grateful.

And be grateful that you were given the privilege of caring for her.

And, yes cry when you need to. In time, the memories will bring smiles more than tears.

5. I am so sorry *hugs* I have been hugging my cats an awful lot more
lately now that the idea that they are coming down the other side of the hill at age 11 has finally sunk in. I wish our pets lived as long as we do!

9. Deepest sympathies...
Losing an important and beloved member of your family is very, very hard, and Tigger and I send our sympathies to you and to all who love Emma.

Your love for her will ensure that she will stay with you. You will feel her presence in your life at times when you least expect it, and you will smile.

My kitty Tigger and I lost his brother Teddy (they were litter mates)in August, and then my mum in November. You have come to the right place for prayers. This place and the prayers resounding from here were a huge comfort for us, and they will be for you. God Bless you in your time of loss.
