Any opinions or expertise on Prodex foil-foam-foil insulation??

It appears to be great at reflecting radiant heat. They claim it is R - 14.5. Too good to be true?

Anybody tried this stuff? I'm looking at alternatives to fibreglas and cellulose for attic insulation.

Thanks for any advice.

edit: Just looking more closely at their site. The R-value they give is for heat flow DOWN. That is misleading IMO. It is more like R-5 for heat flow up. Still it might be good for a vapor barrier and radiant heat reflector all in one. But I need more than R-5 for my attic.

1. We now have the recycled blue jeans cotton insulation in our attic
The blown in stuff has been removed. Hubby seemed to have an allergy to it. So, to be on the safe side, we went with Bonded Logic since it can be safely handled with bare hands. It doesn't have the R factor of the pink stuff. But between the insulation batts and 2 electric exhaust fans (for summer) in the attic, we're comfortable year round here in the Denver area. Even last winter when we had more snow and cold than I remember in 30 years.

We researched the foil insulation. But since our furnace is in the attic, we weren't sure if it was the right product for our application.

2. Thank you!!
I hate the idea of a blown in mess and I hate the fibreglass.

I might go with this stuff. They have r-30 batts which is pretty good.

3. Yes, those are the thicker batts
We may have gotten those. I ought to check the extra ones we stored for future use.

This insulation is pricey, so be prepared. But being in your location, you're surrounded by states with distributors. Shop around. We figured our allergy issues plus the fact that we want to stay in this house make it worth while in the long run.

P.S. I called the company and got some questions answered for our application with the furnace being in the attic. And then I talked with the distributor to figure out how much we should get. Nice people all around.

Best of luck with this!
